Guess where we're off to next Saturday from Southampton on the P&O Azura? I’d better leave my fancy dress at home!

Damn! Got my dinner suit out tonight for my cruise on Saturday and it’s, er, shrunk in the wardrobe. Rolling Eyes The jacket's ok but the trousers are a bit on the snug side. Going to have to rush out tomorrow and get one of those waistband extenders. And a cummerbund. Whistle Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

We've decided not to do the formal nights on our next cruise, so won't be a problem for me. 😄

Boxbrownie. I don’t know why, but I’m getting the tiniest impression that you possibly don’t like cruising. Or tipping. Laughing

Scotland 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Mauritius Blue

I have avoided going on a cruise all my life.

Until I was in my 20's the furthest I had travelled on a seagoing vessel was down the Clyde on our holidays. The thought of being on large ship with a hoard of other people did not appeal one bit.

This year I bit the bullet, it was a 'milestone' birthday for Mrs McSimmo who also took early retirement at the same time. I surprised her by booking us on a P and O Fjord cruise as she has always wanted to see Norway and visit the fjords.

I'm converted, so much so we have booked a Baltic cruise for my (early) retirement next summer, visiting places including St Petersburg, Lithuania, Copenhagen, etc.

The service on board was excellent. Food, drink, service, entertainment were all first rate, and I'm picky. In fact it was better than some 4 and 5 star hotels I've stayed in.

Yes, there were people who lived and gorged themselves in the all day buffet, and spent their evening in the 'pub' watching football and doing pub quizzes, but that's part of being on a cruise, you make it want you want it to be.

The black tie nights are optional, but almost everyone joins in. The shore trips can be pricy, but can be purchased through external tour companies.

I cant see me ever going on a cruise around the Med or Caribbean, I am using them to visit places that interest me, and I would never probably get to see otherwise.

Don't knock it until you have tried it, I've learnt that. Updated- Waiting for a Scotland v England 6 Nations home win. 24th Feb 2018

Did you fjord cruise include the inland waterway between Haugesund and Alesund? that is about the only cruise I would consider, whilst working in Norway I was lucky enough to sail from Floro to Haugesund very near midsummers night, that is really something to see as you sail between vertical mountains 3000m high and about 100m wide at some points with the midnight sun glow above, very eerie. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Laughing I think I would like cruising, we have been looking at doing a Med cruise first, we like the idea of each day being at a different port/country.......the cruise would tell us if we would like a world cruise (90 days) in a year or twos time when we possibly move again and while we have a house built.......still undecided.

We tip very well..........here’s a tip......take an umbrella on the tour of Olden Thumbs Up

Laughing Regards
