Looking to refurb my 17" alloys and the company I contacted told me the following;

"Your wheel weights are on the outer face & should be on the inner face of a alloy wheels"

Can anyone tell me if this is correct or not and if they can be put on the inner face as suggested. I've looked at other examples on eBay and via Google and see this is a common theme?

Correct. It's just for aesthetics - the wheels look better with the weights out of sight on the inside, but some fitters don't bother and just fit standard weights to the outside.

Great to know thank you, just gone over my 5 tyres (inc spare) and found that 4 of the 5 have weights on the outside. Hopefully if I approach a local garage with some beer money, they would be able to move these inside the wheel for me!

Ask them to use a combination of sick-on/clip on weights on the inside only. All balancing machines have that facility. Our one even had a 'hidden weight' programme where you can fit the stick-on weights behind the spokes and therefore out of view.

Stick-on weights are more expensive and cannot be reused. Clip-on weights on the outside of an alloy wheel is just plain laziness. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Upto 2004 LR commonly placed the clip on balancing weights on the outside of the rim. After a few years it made the alloys prone to blistering around that area due to a build of grime and road salt happily nesting in the area.

that used to really irritate me - glad they dont do it now Jules
