Hi, yesterdey i left my 2007 freelander 2 TD4 (240000km) with DPF at the dealer to replace rear diff. They gave me a 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 (220000km) for replacement car.

From the first moment i realise that the replacement car is much more quiet than mine. For three years that i own this car i though that TD4 is very noisy, but i figure that only mine is very noisy.

What makes a diesel engine to make more noise than another? Same car, same engine, same kilometers, same year, different engine noise. Freelander 2 TD4 HSE 2.2 (2007) Auto

The engine has a sound-deadening cover bolted on top, and a sound-deadening undertay bolted underneath, so if you're missing either of those it can make a big difference to the noise.
