Quote to Replace N/S Rear Diff Seal on an 08 Freelander

I've got a weeping N/S rear diff seal on a Freelander '08 been quoted £154.15 inclusive of all Genuine Land Rover parts labour to replace. Just wondered how competitive this price seems to you? Also is it best to replace them as a pair together at the same time or no difference? Thanks in advance

Doesnt sound terrible to me, I've not had it done but when you factor in the cost of the seal and oil top up etc it seems quite a decent price to me..

It doesnt look especially hard, just wheel off, tie rod disconnect, drive shaft out seal replacement and all back in.. seal sould be a pain to get out..

I wouldnt say its worth getting the otherside done unless its leaking, its not like they could replave it while the other side was stripped out, its just a case of doing exactly the same the other side.. so unless its leaking I wouldnt bother.. but keep an eye on it incase it starts leaking in the future.. MY2011 Freelander 2 GS Santorini Black

I had something like this when I had the rear diff done and it was found to be coming from a breather on top, evidently they had overfilled the diff after doing the job. However unless you can see oil on the driveway where you park or it's spraying oil under the car I wouldn't bother. A small amount of oil can look a lot worse than it really is. I would clean it all up then leave it and keep a close eye on it. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Not a bad price, BMW charged £802 to fit a rear diff seal to an M3.
£800 labour, £2 seal.

Check the breather isn't blocked, if it is the increased pressure can cause leaks
