Well, I while ago I indicated that down the track I would be interested in adding a few features that a loan Evoque had. Really liked the soft key activation of the rear camera whilst on the move for when the rear cargo area is full and a more nerdy toy was the 4x4 information screen.
Apparently the Evoque is fitted with the Gen 2.1 system which runs these extra features and Freelander 2 has Gen 2.
Well, while I was "phaffing" around in my dash I took the opportunity to take a few pics for future reference and it appears that my MY15 has Gen 2.1 touchscreen hardware.



"Low and behold" when I searched IAM2.1 Level 3 on the internet it comes up with Gen 2.1 as fitted to Evoque, Jaguar XF/XJ, RRS and 2014 FFRR.
So it looks like this may be possible after all and I've started this thread and will update as I go.
I have a few other projects on the go atm, DAB, HILINE/Premium Meridian and other house related projects, so I may not get straight on to this one!😂
If your interested in this then the best thing would be to do as I have and have a look at the version of your HDD.
As this hardware has so many other model users, there could be an untold number of features that could be added! MY15

I have all the equipment now so it's just a matter of familiarising myself with it and finding the time.
Looks like it will just be a matter of identifying software/firmware and loading it if not already there.
I've been doing a little more digging and as far as I can see there is no other higher model that supersedes this unit.
Looks like timed heating/cooling is a possibility also. MY15

The key to all this is "Voice Activation"
If you have voice activation then you should have Gen 2.1 hardware that will make this all possible. So I think this should be possible for models back to MY13 with voice activation.

Have successfully done a scan of all modules and software in the car now. Have also done a complete survey of CCF and OMG there's heaps!!!! Too much to really remember but some mentionable easy add ons or simple CCF Edit are

Steering Column Paddle shifts
RSE - not the early basic system but the good system that in the Range Rovers.
I didn't see timed cooling/heating but I think we skipped past HVAC.
There was just too much.
In regards to the head module it would seem that whilst the later Freelander 2's didn't have the option of TV etc, as it has the same Hardware then It's possible to bring across any of the features that other models have, just need to add module, if needed and change within CCF.
I've now just got to find in CCF the soft key activation for rear camera, this may take a while as there's a lot. If it's not an obvious change within CCF then it's a case of identifying the software in say an Evoque with the same IAM2.1 Level 3 system and flashing the unit.
As I'm still getting used to the diagnostic equipment/process I think I will stick to a few easier changes, AMP is next, quite easy actually, we have already identified there's two changes within CCF to activate. Once I'm more comfortable with CCF editing I'll work my way into the harder stuff! MY15

Great stuff. At least you have the balls and at least a little know how to get in there - so jealous. People used to be nay sayers and say "you will turn that car into a brick" but they are boring of course.

Paddles paddles, love these on my other car once CCF is recognisable / traced to similar functions in Evoque this would be a real boon. Parts from disco 4 or late RRS 1 would probably fit onto back of the similar steering wheel rear shroud

Paddles are really easy, the car is already set up for these. I think there is a part number/Accessory for the correct ones under Freelander accessories in Topix, most likely same as Evoque. From memory there is 3, black, stainless steel or red to choose from. Bolt them on, connect lead to each switch pack in your steering wheel and activate on CCF, whalah!!!
