Re setting the service 'clock'

Since buying my vehicle new in 2008, I have had it serviced by a local garage. My last service the other day, showed that the 'clock' on the dashboard showed that I was well behind my 'official' service. My mechanic friend tried to re zero the clock but failed. Is there a way of doing it so that the clock is set back to zero?

Steve.
