Deep fat fryer, any recommenations?

Seems a bit sad asking this, but as there are so many on the market, I was hoping some of you had found a decent one.
It would get very little use, so don't want to spend a lot and cooking for 2/3 people.
Also need lid to prevent splashes. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

What are you wanting to fry? Chips or breaded things like scampi

My brothers got a actifry (I thinks that's what it's called) a big black thing but no oil and uses air, and results a good Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Back in the day, when I worked in an electrical store, DeLonghi were the frontrunners. May still be the case today... Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Actifry takes ages, deep fat fryers are stinky change your diet Thumbs Up

We have one of these for occasional use but unless it's full it's easy to burn things.

Tefal all the way....they are the masters of fryers, and have been for 30+ years IMHO. Foraging near Gaydon....

I used to have a fryer had filters in and still stunk if you did get the tiny left over breadcrumb out, used to have a filtered drainer so once cooled you drained the oil to filter it out

Cooked loads in it, took it on weekends away to make chips for the party I was at, best thing I ever did with it was

throw it in the skip Thumbs Up

If I was to get one again, something cheap like Argos Cookworks for 」20, like Taz's

Also they make the kitchen greasy with the oil steam vapour Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Have has one of these for years, now on the second and it is now about 8 years old, only uses about a litre of oil with a dep and shallow end, so the basket rotates the food in and out of the oil. Need to drain and clean every 10 or so uses, but are nonstick. They seem to last so long the spares are no longer available when they die.

Tried deep fat fryers and found the cleaning/smell/unhealthy aspect too much for me.

I bought a Tefal Actifry - nothing short of amazing. Perfect results, no smell and a ridiculously small quantity of oil used.
There are bargains to be had out there - so shop around.

Whatever make, get one with a stainless steel interior, non-stick ones gunk up and you destroy the non-stick finish de-gunking it BTDIGTTS.

Disagree with Actifry - does not compete with proper chips. If you like what it produces that is fine but I miss real chips. Sad

Suppose it depends on what youre used to, if youve only ever had awful chips you dont know what youre missing until you try a good one.
Most oven type are dreadful.
Traditional ones done in dripping are the tastiest, but really unhealthy, but then if you dont have many very often then I suppose its not a problem.

I would have said a Tefal Pro, which has an oil filter and drain, so that you can not only re-use the oil, but also dishwash the majority of the fryer, however they do not seem to make that model any more.

No reason why deep fat frying should be unhealthy. It's often perceived to be (IMO) because if the oil is not at the right temperature the food does not seal and the oil permeates.

Modern fryers with easy to use thermostats should be fine. Drain/dry the food afterwards and there should be very little oil left.

Depending on what we're cooking, we often use it outside, especially if we're BBQing, so that the smell does not fill the house, which I would agree is one big negative for them.
