Caravan Satallite Systems

been thinking, since i have a spare Sky box and can get a sky dish free to use these in the caravan Very Happy

I would look at some sort of tripod, does this have to be able to swivel around etc Question

Has anybody got a satellite system in their caravan and have any pointers or requirement Question

I can't get my head round the angle of the vertical side as i presume this changes if you in Scotland or Cornwall etc

Any advice welcome Very Happy (apart from CG's advice which will be to sell the van and rent a cottage with Sky installed already Rolling Eyes Laughing ) Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

There's stuff in a recent caravan magazine about making your own tripod, and how to set it up.

I'll dig it out tomorrow, and give you teh gist of it.

Nick

Part of our deal with the van is we have never taken a TV away with us. Shocked Shocked Shocked

The idea being it forces the old fashioned art of conversation ... or reading ... or generally doing things we don't do when at home.

That said I'm Censored all use at answering your question. However, take a look at this site, there are plenty of folks on there who seem to know about Satellite stuff in vans. Thumbs Up

Cheers Avtur, I'll have a look at the site for some hints and tips

We quite like the TV as the young ones can what there programs, but we spend most evenings relaxing with a bottle of wine and a few beers outside or in the awning.

I just think for the little bit of £££ i'll need to spend to get the kit up and running, I might aswell have clear TV instead of the normal fuzzy picture Very Happy Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Just came back from hols camping where I had a 80cm dish feeding a Humax Freesat HD reciever. Didnt want to miss 'Le Tour'.

The 'tripod' was a sharpened brush handle driven into the ground. It cost me all of 50p.
Thumbs Up

The only downside with that is that one night in strong wind it pivoted around a little so I had to swivel it back.

A better solution if you have a caravan would be to clamp the brush handle to the tow hitch chassis bits.
If you dont like the high tech brush handle approach then screwfix do a 2m Alu. aerial pole for £6.

The 80cm dish folds down to be very packable. A much smaller dish would be enough for Europe but I had this one laying around. If you dont want the new HD Freesat service or the lovely EPG you can get a freeview sat. receiver for dirt cheap. www.satellitesuperstore.com for everything you ever wanted to know..... '57 GS TD4 in Stornoway. Privacy, Leather, Tred Cills. From ebay etc.. 18" 12 spoke HSE alloys, rear spoiler, clear side repeaters with clear leds, led interior light to replace bulbs, sports exhaust trim, TomTom 720.
