Football - England U21's

Watched England v Italy this evening with England all to play for.
But they didn't.
Italy have a side where many players are from lower divisions.
Have to admit England were a bit under strength but there was more than enough to put on a decent show and win the game.
You'd have thought.
Utter garbage. No fight, no organisation and what's even more depressing no heart. (not Hart)
They've become a clone of the Senior squad.
Even the pundits ran out excuses.
When you don a shirt for your Country you should be very proud.
Even the National Anthem was sung half hearted.
Lets hope the girls put on a better show. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I met Emlyn Hughes when I was a kid and he spoke to my dad and told him that he would have paid £500 and walked 500 miles to play for England. The honour and pride was all too clear.

Now we have a bunch of overpaid muppets who moan and moan and prefer to play for their club and earn £££. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

If you read Sir Stan's book, he tells how his train to Euston was late as he was due to join the England squad.
So he rushed out of the station and ordered a taxi and arrived to join the team just in time.
Several days later and after the game, he submitted his expenses to the FA.
The taxi fare was rejected on the grounds that he should have used public transport.

The chances of Rupert Murdoch waking up one day and saying 'We're out of football', pigs might fly.
But it's what's needed. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Too much money in football now, most so called good young players are on at least £30k a week. Let's be honest the TV pundits build these folk up to think they are worth the money, things like a world class pass when in fact is all he does is pass the ball 30 or 40 yard to an open player.
BT have paid stupid money for some TV rights and are now going to charge me £5 p/m to watch it when for the passed 3 yrs it's been part of my BB package, well no thanks Mr BT , with 76mb I can stream the game from a "site" for free. Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

The amount of money that's generated in the first place is what's wrong, not what the players are paid.

It's like the music business - if a record label manages to generate £10m from the sale of a recording then damn right the artist should make a big chunk of that.
What's wrong is the pricing of tickets, CD's, downloads, merch and all the rest - which would of course reduce overnight if we didn't pay it.

Like football though, a big percentage of their revenue comes from sponsorship streams - how do you control that? I guess if we all abandoned Sky Sports (I already have, as it goes) then Sky couldn't pay the PL such an exorbitant amount and the cycle might break?
