The back box on my Metropolis is beginning to look a bit shabby. Rather than re-paint has anyone tried to polish it? I assume it is stainless so should polish to a semi shiny finish. Just wondered if the effort is worth it or do I get out the exhaust paint? FL2 Metropolis, Loire Blue, ebony/ivory |

Not sure how long it will last which is why I posed the question. The paint which they put on from new does not seem to last much either. I thought that once polished it would shed the crap quite easily and maybe be easier to keep clean. I'm certainly not enthusiatic enough to get under there every week. But if once every six months keeps it looking ok I'm willing to give it a bash. FL2 Metropolis, Loire Blue, ebony/ivory |

Don't think I'll bother, although polishing might stop all the muck sticking to it, regularly drive many miles in forests when officiating at motorsport events. All FL2's (3) Gone

I just assumed it would be. The bits where the paint have flaked off does not seem to have rusted so I doubted it was a mild steel system. Don't want to get into any arguments over the properties of stainless/grades of stainless which seem to happen whenever anyone mentions the S word FL2 Metropolis, Loire Blue, ebony/ivory |

My back box needs something doing to it, black paint looks good and might be the best and quickest. 2013 hse auto, black, almond leather, exnon lights, factory privacy glass, exhaust finisher, rear boot spoiler, mud flaps. Body door side moulding and steps.

I,m on my 3rd UK freelander and all have had the back box painted. My current car the back box has a little bit of rust on it, a rub down and enamel paint perhaps is needed. I've noticed other Freelander with the same back box dis- colouring. 2013 hse auto, black, almond leather, exnon lights, factory privacy glass, exhaust finisher, rear boot spoiler, mud flaps. Body door side moulding and steps.

Well I've just been out and polished mine. Used a fibre mop on a drill to clean off all the paint (15 mins), Then metal polish on an old hard pad in the da (10 mins). Ends and seams with wire wool (10 mins) Did all the bits that are visible without putting up on hoist (which is almost all except top of box). Looks a treat, well pleased, I recon 10 mins tops every 6 months to keep nice. FL2 Metropolis, Loire Blue, ebony/ivory |
