"He added: “I’m a one-man-band. I’m self employed. I can’t afford nearly £1,000. I didn’t go to court because I have to go to work."

Says all you need to know. If everything he says is true he'd have bloody well made sure he was there.

I drive a lot in France an although in town the driving can be a bit entertaining I find their motorway driving a lot better than in the uk.
they will always keep left (right) after overtaking almost to quickly and I have been flashed for a bit of Uk lane hogging so learnt my lesson.

It certainly concentrates the mind when they come flying up behind you with their indicators on, until you get out of the way!

I find this middle-lane hogging business puzzling.

If it's a 3 lane motorway, the person in the middle lane is not blocking the road (unless they're going ridiculously slowly and causing a hazard). If they're travelling at 60mph, and overtaking slower vehicles (as this man claimed to be doing) it's hardly an offence.

What about HGV drivers that pull out to overtake other HGV's and take 10 miles to get past? Shouldn't they be hauled off to court by the same reasoning?

And last Saturday, as I was driving up the A34 at about 8:45 am, I saw a wide load coming down the opposite side, occupying both lanes of the dual carriageway and doing about 30mph. The queue of traffic behind was about 5 miles long (and growing by the second). Shouldn't the driver of that vehicle (and its police escort) have been arrested?

As always, it's double standards by the police and a desire for a quick and easy arrest.

The legislation for prosecuting middle lane hoggers was always going to be nigh on impossible to enforce from the date it started.

Lorries overtaking other lorries at 56.5 mph is a serious annoyance however they are actually overtaking.

Drivers like this one who, allegedly, was driving in the middle lane with little other traffic around, are the potential problem drivers. As if your are driving at 70mph and they are in the middle lane, with lane 1 being clear and lane 3 being nose to tail, then you are going to have to either brake, brake and overtake, or move left and undertake. That's where the problems come in.

It would be interesting if the Police released the video footage so we could all see what actually happened. The incident happened close to where I live, a couple of local papers have the story online and people are saying that the fine is too much. What they don't realise is that the fella opted for a court case for what ever reason then didn't show up. I'm assuming there would have been video evidence in the court room? Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Use the 10 second rule as per IAD or Police craft thingy majig Thumbs Up
If you can't overtake the next car within 10 seconds then get the f Censored k over into the next lane from 3 to 2 and/or 2 to 1.
Simple and I'm flummoxed why the Govt does not put out a national campaign to promote it!
It would solve lots of congestion too Thumbs Up * GONE. GS TD4 Manual MY2013. Orkney Grey with privacy, cold and clearview packs, armrests (a must!) and a spoiler.
