United Kingdom 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 SE Auto Santorini Black

Looking at the history of my car, I would agree the cost is worth it. Unsure if a DMF issue would be covered by the LR warranty though.... Learned to drive in 2011.
Bought a Micra - great little car

It ought to be, but they tend to use that old term called wear and tear saying its not a fault its gone wrong because youve worn and torn it. Rolling Eyes

LR said it was very unusual for mine to be failing at only 7yrs/65k, however it is classed as wear and tear and as Im the 3rd owner then they couldnt comment on how the previous owners had driven it, so any LR warranty wouldnt cover it.

Fair point really, but why should a premature failure of a part on a car that is supposed to have heavier duty components as its a 4x4 (and a LR as well), be not covered. Surely there is a design failure if its failing early ???? Oh well, we will never win on that argument really. Whistle

The DMF is one of the few parts I found in the LR extended warranty documents to be explicitly stated to not be covered if I remember correctly.

What would be really interesting would be to find out the statistics behind these warranty schemes. We have had 4 FL2s, only one has had no problems and the other 3 have had repairs costing well above the price of a warranty. At that rate they would be losing money, or are the people on this forum just the unlucky ones? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

They make their money from the people who buy the warranties, but then dont make a claim. If 3 people, each paying £500 for a years cover, dont make a claim, but the fourth guy makes a claim for a £1300 DMF replacement, then the repair work is covered.

Im sure there are thousands out there who pay for a warranty but dont claim, meaning those of us with cars that have characteristic features (not faults! Very Happy ) are covered. Thumbs Up

Yes, that's how insurance works, however in my case the repairs have come to over £5k on three cars so there must be a lot of cars out there with no claims to cover that. If we knew the statistics then we could make an intelligent guess on the economics. Its a bit like a guy I knew who lived in London and never paid for car parking, he got fined every so often but reckoned that it was cheaper than paying normally. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I'm a naturally cautious person when it comes to things like this. Would rather know anything that comes along would "likely" be covered. Always something that wont be though. Learned to drive in 2011.

Took the plunge and renewed the LR warranty for another year. It helped that LRCS made a wee contribution to it seeing as I haven't exactly had a reliable product. That was much appreciated.

So the good news is (or bad, your call) is that I will be here for another year at least Very Happy Learned to drive in 2011.
