Steering Column locked problem

I've read a number of posts on here from several years ago about a problem I have recently encountered

Key in - press clutch - press start and literally nothing happens other than a warning message appears saying the "steering column is locked". I disconnect the battery and all is good.

The previous posts came up with various repairs but non seemed to be "the repair", they only seemed to help with the problem.

Since these posts were written has anyone come up with a fix all solution for this problem?

It was fixed by a software update, might be worth checking if you have the most up to date software for your car?

Thank you, I will be getting the software updated and also fixing an earth strap from the battery to the starter motor.

Which terminal on the battery would you recommend for the earth strap?

Don't take this the wrong way, but if you have to ask that you probably shouldn't do this yourself! Shorting the battery = major fireworks!

I agree, I'll be getting someone who knows what the are doing to have a look at this. No offence taken.

I've now updated the software, had an earth strap fitted, had a new battery and this problem still persists. Someone somewhere must have a solution to this issue.
