I read in another blog about this also,
F4 and f8 (from memory) fuses in the
passenger floor well, I pulled them out
reinserted them and still nothing.

Unfortunately I'm now afraid to take it
seriously off track, as if this happened
on a secluded track it could be impossible
to recover, especially with the steering locked.
I feel problems like this should never occur
with off roaders or soft roaders..

My son works in Botswana and never sees LandRovers any more, it's all Toyota Landcruisers and Nissan especially the older designs without fancy electronics (which you can still buy new). 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I suppose you can't have the best of worlds.

I'll post the solution in a couple of days, or as
soon as I find out, Which is hopefully soon.
Thank you everyone for all the comments.

SOLUTION

Well it turned out to be a dead instrument cluster..
Don't ask me how it died, maybe the rough terrain.

They managed to reprogram a second hand cluster
, saving me the waiting time and cost of new one,,
$450 for the instrument cluster, ended up costing less
than a grand to get it working again..

The electrician said he had heard of this kind of failure
with the instrument cluster but never seen it.

Anyway, problem solved,,
Thanks for all the input.

Did you have to get it back to "civilisation" or did the locals fix it? Also has it picked up your existing odometer reading? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

The locals had no idea,,,
Had it towed to the city..
I asked the electrician about the odometer,
and he said he put in the same as my original,
I suppose he's obliged to stay honest when playing
with instrument clusters..
