Wouldn't even consider it..........a lot less power and shorter engine life due to high combustion temps.

there is a chap who has a RRS Supercharged and he has just booked his in for a LPG converstion, he stating no loss of power and 46p a litre its worth it

When I said a loss of power it isn't in terms of hp, but basically LPG has a higer octane rating making it burn hot, but burns faster than petrol...20% faster. This means higher fuel consumption (So more regular fill ups), which is offset by the low fuel cost, but also that in you need to push the accelerator further to accelerate as quick as a petrol version. Add on top of this the weight of the LPG tank and you've stripped more of your performance. The other parts to this, is can you find LPG at all gas staions? (In Holland yes, but in the UK...no), how much does the conversion cost and will you still have the vehicle at the point where you'd make your money back, and most importantly think how difficult selling it on is. Once you've tasted GREY you'll never go back! |

LPG is pretty easily available in our part of the world. But the people I know who have converted their cars have quite a lot of trouble with the actual conversion equipment. For some reason the price of LPG has not risen as fast as the oil price so it is looking attractive again, but how long will this last? For example for heating use LPG 28 p/l kerosene 50p/l when they used to be approx equal price a few years ago

You'll will also probably find that as more and more people convert to LPG then the price at the pumps will go up in the same way that diesel did, so there is a good possibility that you won't recoup your costs anyway.
