Not suggesting this is a problem at all, just curious as to what causes this blue-ish smoke on start up.

That would be the least of my concerns.

Puff of black smoke from an oil burner is normal.

But not blue. Normally, if this only happens after the engine has not been run for several hours, it's a sign of oil getting past the guides and if the oil level doesn't drop too much, i wouldn't worry.

But blue smoke from a hot engine is another matter. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Why is oil being combusted, if it is only when parked overnight it points to worn valve guides which on a vehicle of your mileage is not right, have you added something to the Diesel, 2 Stroke perhaps or some other additive but over dosed it

No nothing at all. Fuel wise it has until very recently been run on V-Power diesel (not sure if that has any bearing) but from what you say I will see if it occurs in the morning and ring the dealer if it does. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

if your blue smoke on start up (when cold) comes with a little rough running ie like an old petrol car with too much choke on it could be a signe that one or more glow plugs have gone down i had this on two of my former cars a 200 series disco and a vauxhall cavlier, if you get a puff of blue smoke when the engine is warm pulling away from traffic lights this may suggest that the valve stem oil seals are leaking and allowing engine oil into the cylinder

blue smoke = un burnt fuel or engine oil being burnt

black smoke = blocked air filters or low compression rainy-city

Sorry guys, I have not been accurate here. The smoke doesn't occur when simply starting the engine. What happens is sometimes (most of the time) the engine sounds a bit rough on start up so I press the throttle a bit whilst in neutral and it clears it and the car sounds better but in doing so, the blue smoke occurs. Sometimes does it when building revs to pull away in 1st. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

You can get white smoke with unburnt fuel.

my diagnosis will be a duff glow plug/plugs i bet  rainy-city
