Arches now stuffed with 285/50/20 LTZ's

A couple of weeks ago I fitted new 275/45/20 Cooper Zeon LTZ's.
However I've always run the beefier 285/50/20s on my past D3 & D4.
So after the fittment of the 275/45's I did the maths and reckoned I'd just get away with 285/50/20s.
This afternoon I popped out to my local tyre guru Terry Elsey Ltd in Malton and had these big boys fitted by Jonny [fellow FL2 owner & forum member].
Thanks Jonny for your help & patience in getting these fitted for me. Thumbs Up

Stopped on way home to take a few iphone pics before it got dark.
btw, FL2 was immaculate on Thurs morn - just valeted by LR dealer after Wed service - bit dirty now though. Rolling Eyes

Oh, will have my set of new 275/45/20 LTZs up for sale if my 1st dibber from Disco3 doesn't come up trumps

Yes absolutely no clearance issues at all ......so far.
But you could only get a few sheets of A4 between the closest points, but that's only 1) the excess securing bracket of the front mudflaps when on lock, but the Dremel's at the ready, 2) the front wheel arch liner, but that also would pose no real problem, easy ways to get over that.
But key points are that there's no rubbing on the uprights, the spring seating base, nor on 'lock to lock'
I will be on the Moors today so will be able to check further and see if any fouling occurs.

btw, it isn't a 'street car', as on my weekend duties it is 'professionally' used off road - as it will be today............... but thanks for the thought Thumbs Up

Do these bigger tyres affect the speedo and other things that are expecting a standard tyre size???

Are you sure the rubbers don't touch the rear struts?

Hope yours Haldex will hold over time...

btw, came accross this quote on another Haldex related thread .... mine though will no doubt go just that bit sooner. Rolling Eyes

Had it out today off-road and found an ever so slight rubbing when I put it through various articulations.
That was on absolute [firmly held] full lock and then reversing [not going forward] - got a very slight rubbing, but only on a small protrussion on the rear of the front plastic wheel arch lining.
It'll be very occassional 'rubber to plastic' and is that small it's not worth hassling about as tyres will wear down a bit anyway..... or a ping with a toffee hammer!


Don't know how the MPG will go and frankly not really interested.
If I wanted frugal economy, then in a LR I'm driving the wrong brand of vehicle.

Yes I expected the speedo reading to be out, it was spot on with the 275's but now speedo under-reads by 2mph, I can live with that.

Oh and of course, the insurance company will be informed [as it always is with my modifications].

On that thought:

I know that it will dull the acceleration due to the larger radius lessening the effect of the torque from the axle drive when compared to stock but would that affect the haldex in reality?

Can the additional loading effect of the larger tyre radius be equated to the same effect of running the car fully loaded, or towing? Both are situations where you are asking the driveline torque to work harder to push the car along.

And if you can equate the loading, then should the haldex's fragility be feared for driving anything other than a single person in the car, and not just larger tyres.
