Problems posting pictures

Hi all

for some reason I'm having issues posting pictures using the direct "Img" tags. Sometimes the pictures shows up and some times just the URL with the tags at each end show up

I'm linking to pictures on Facebook, which works fine on just about every other forum I'm on - so I'm a bit confused Confused

I do 90% of my posting from shared computers at work, so downloading them all, saving them and then uploading them again on here isn't really a viable option

Any ideas?

I have tried linking from Facebook and it doesn't work, ended up saving the image, then uploading it here.

Can you post a link that works elsewhere but not here and I will ask Martin to look into it.

I have tried linking and its not working.

I do all my linking from Facebook (saves having to upload multiple times) so I'll try photobucket and get back to you Wink

Thumbs Up cracking photo,

I got some to work earlier and others wouldn't, probably the way Facebook screws with the files, the filenames are very long and peculiar looking.

thanks, my first Defender back in 2007. I'll get a proper thread put together with my past stuff but out of all the cars I've had over the years I miss that one the most. It was nearly mint when I bought it - but due to being young and dumb I wrecked it totally doing stuff like the above picture (taken about 15 mins after I had crossed a river in it) Sad

There still appears to be a problem uploading photos directly from the site. The only way that it is possible from an iPad is by using a 3rd party hosting App (Photobucket/Flickr etc) and copying the IMG code directly over to the topic box.

Are the site owners aware of this (ongoing) issue? Foraging near Gaydon....

It was working, I have just tried and its failing again.
I get the file uploaded and then it sits there saying "adding to album" and sticks there, is this the same fault you are getting?

There are two problems here.

1 - the Facebook image URLs are probably not in a format that the forum sees as valid (as taz said) - can someone please post an example image URL which doesn't work so I can track this down (taz did ask for this)

2 - Apple have clearly broken something regarding uploading or background activity which means that the stable code I had for uploading on the forum no longer works Evil or Very Mad

The uploader code has NOT changed AT ALL since it worked perfectly on iOS 7 and 8.0.1.

3rd party apps will work as they probably use totally different systems, which Apple happen not to break. They also have large developer teams and budgets to fix any problems.

Due to the fact that I cannot put iOS 8 on anything and roll back to iOS 7 (which I want on my own devices) I cannot fix this, unless someone wants to lend me an iOS 8 device for a few days to allow me to do some testing (haha fat chance).

Does annoy me so much that Apple break stuff so readily, and refuse to help out developers by offering the flexibility to roll forwards and back to try and sort this.

They are the new Microsoft Rolling Eyes Evil or Very Mad

Martin,

Whilst you are sorting problems, perhaps you can explain this one and hopefully fix it?

If I log on to the Forum and then click on "New Posts" they come up as one would expect which is great.
However a couple of times I have clicked to close a link in a post and by accident closed "New Posts" and then
after a suitable amount of calling myself all sorts of rude words, when I try to open up "New Posts" again the
words "No new posts available" or something similar come up and I am not allowed in.
This is very frustrating for a very old and not very IT savy person like myself.
I also contribute to quite a few motorsport forums and have not had this problem on them.

Hope you can help and best regards,

That Facebook picture is on a secure server, it will more than likely need a log in to view, I have played with it without any joy.
