Fault code 7E8

Hello all,

Just joined the FL2 owners club. Smile Was having a great time till this fault came up along with "reduced engine performance"

After a bit of googling I was lead to believe it was a EGR issue, so off came the egr(pain in the arse!!!) cleaned it(was dirty but not as bad as I thought it was going to be)

Took the FL out and it popped up again.....

Turned the engine off, restarted it and the pushed it into trip tronic mode, gave it some beans and had no issues. Put it back into drive and when I got to 50 the "REP" kicked in again. A scan of the ECU threw up the following: 7E8: Emgine and 7E9: A/T

This leads me to the gear box. But no idea where to go from there. The car is under warranty but wanted to know if it was a fix I could do?

Thanks for reading and any help in advance.

Jim

Those are not error codes.
They are the CAN IDs used by the engine ECU (7E8) and transmission ECU (7E9) to respond to the diagnostic queries...

Hello,

So managed to get one of the codes:- P042F Exhuast Gas recirculation valve stuck closed

I'm guessing that is EGR?

Yes.
You said you cleaned it so either is:
- a bad connection at the plug
- the variable resistor inside the EGR motor for feedback position is with problem
- EGR motor seized or defective.

Time for EGR dismantling again... Very Happy

Yeah, looks like it. But on the up side it now drives better. Time for a EGR blanking plate I think!

Can't get the other fault code for the gearbox, so going to book it into my local Landrover guys. Thank god for warranty.

We have had two FL2s where the reduced engine performance has come up and both were fixed by replacing the fuel filter. It may be different in your case but one (08 reg) it came up a number of times. The other (11 reg) came up once going up a hill - there had also been some starting problems with that car. I now get the fuel filter changed at every service instead of the recommended every other one.
