I went to my local dealer yesterday and had a quick check, it might be oil pan gasket leaking, and I will book my car in tomorrow for final checkup and repair. Land Rover Freelander 2 HSE i6 |

I have been through the same, it started with a burnt oil /smoky smell from inside the car, when pushing it or easy offroad driving. Went to my fantastic (not) Land Rover service centre in Stavanger in March, telling me it was due to a fault in the dynamo.

I am getting a bit worried that generally the LR service is not as it should be from what various FL2 owners have commented on . At least here in Norway we can’t just take the car to another service centre as this may be halfway across the country. I have not had the first service yet, but the FL2 has been back for a couple of small adjustments and I must say that I am a bit disappointed at the way they return the car, with obvious signs that service personnel with dirty fingers and boots have been inside the coupe . Although I had various complaints about my local BMW service leadership, the car was always returned absolutely spotless after a service inspection or repair in all 8-years of ownership , and it would seem that BMW had a high standard of service and cleanliness. Their policy must be quality car deserves quality service? However as earlier mentioned LR service seems a little scruffy or sloppy by comparison . Are there loads of FL2 owners out there that are in fact completely satisfied with the service they get, or am I being a bit paranoid 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof. Mine is in for its 1st service today and Ive just had a call telling me about an oil leak. They said they have another one in with the exact same problem so once theyve figured out how to fix it (!) they should be able to do mine today, otherwise it'll be called in yet again. I dont have any complaints about the service quality (although today is the first actual service) but i do have a complaint that my FL2 has had 8, in fact now 9, separate problems since I bought in new in Sep 07, all related to poor build quality. Not good. vroom vroom......... |

Hmmm....., I am using my local Bil-Service in Larvik, and they have been good so far. They are also locally in Sandefjord and Tønsberg. Dont know about Horten (where I believe you live?)? So in this part of the country I think we have many options. And closer to Oslo, even more. But I am happy with my local one. So I dont quite understand what you mean saying another service centre as this may be halfway across the country. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Automatic, Caspian Blue, Alpaca, Moon roof, Exclusive pack. |

Mine is Bil-Service Tønsberg, but Bil-Service is Bil-Service weather it is Tønsberg or Larvik I would have thought . The sales guys in Tønsberg er very compitent - I am not quite convinced about the service guys. Still if I find that Larvik has better service then Larvik it will be. Drammen and Oslo is much to far and time consuming plus too expensive considering all the toll roads you have to pay these days 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof. Last week, a day before my recall arrived for the booster heater fuse removal, the car had a 'burnt oil' type of smell in the cabin when coming to rest. I thought it might be due to 'smouldering' after reading the recall letter. However, the fuse was removed last Saturday but the smell has persisted on several occasions when pulling-up. It only lasts for a few seconds and never during normal driving. If you sit with it on tickover, the smell is gone in about 20 seconds. It's nasty enough to be worrying. Has anybody had similar, other than the one quoted above. LR dealer is going to take a look at it tomorrow morning. Was GS TD4 Auto, Privacy, Santorini with Tundra & Alpaca, Cold Climate Pack. LR dealer investigated problem today. It appears that there was a small leak from a joint between two hoses (plastic ones between rear of engine cover and bulkhead and running parallel to bulkhead). They think that the seal was imperfect from the factory and have resealed it. A small amount of oil was seeping away and running down the back of the engine and causing an occasional drip onto the manifold. They say it may take a few days to burn off/dry up, so smell may occur for a few days yet.

Hi,,I am based in Baroda, India and this is Exactly what I am facing.. I bought a FL2 sd4 hse in september 2011 and is now at the workshop since last 10 days or more...Initially I was told that they would get the job done in approx a week but then they later say that after some repairs there still is a minor leak and that THEY WOULD HAVE TO ORDER A PART FROM UK...which will take 10 to 15 days... Though the workshop people are very nice and helpful,,(they even sent me a courtesy vehicle)..I did not expect a vehicle like this to come up with such a problem.. btw..i have hardly used this vehicle..in 2 years, about 12000 km only...its as good as new but with a leak ;-0 Anyone who got this kind of problem sorted out please do share.. |
