Hopefully a new FL2 owner

Hi All

Assuming the current hurricane force weather doesn't screw my flights up too much I'll be picking up this nice 2010 XS on Friday

Looking at the spec list (I've not actually seen it yet) it seems to be fully loaded

http://www.arnoldclark.com/used-cars/ref/ARNAY-U-85766?aid=732187

It will be replacing my partner Susans 2013 Volvo C30 that has developed some issues. Basically Volvo don't want to know and I'm becoming increasingly fed up with after sales service considering we bought the cat new and it has only just covered 12k miles in 2 years

I've been doing some reading on known faults, so will keep an eye out for the power hesitation and Haldex issues that have been mentioned. Anything else I should look for? A friend advised that I test all the toys to make sure they work fully - is there any way of testing hill decent on a test drive?

Oh and in case someone recognises the user name I've been on Defender2 for a few years with my other toy - a 2001 Tomb Raider 110. It's been used and abused over the years so I'm slowly trying to restore it

Just find a steepish hill, engage first gear and hdc and let the car roll down the hill. If hdc is working correctly the speed should be held to around 4mph. You will also hear various clunks from the system - these sound odd until you get used to them, but are completely normal!

Good luck!

Is that "Bali Blue" ? if so I have an 11 reg just like it. I have had the hesitation problems but mine is the facelift model and it probably won't affect yours. The easiest way to check is to look at the air intake pipe under the bonnet and see if it has the "organ pipes" on it. If it has you are OK. Another thing I have had a couple of FL2s with fuel filter problems, they get changed at every other service as part of the service schedule. You get the "reduced engine performance" message and the car goes into limp mode. I would recommend getting it done every time.

Lovely colour, enjoy!

I'd check the arch rubber stone deflectors which deteriorate and allow crud to collect between the inside of the rubber and arch lip, if bad remove one and check for corrosion; especially the rear at the bottom by the door closure.

A new set doesn't cost much, fit them yourself. I doubt the dealer will take the care to clean the arches and apply anti corrosion solution before fitting.

Check all trim fittings are there, especially the chrome vent adjusters, not sure this is available as a spare part and new vents cost a fortune.

Check tailgate release manually, push on the rubber handle, if you hear a crunch it's a sign of corrosion in the micro switch. Also check the edges where the number plate light housing meets the tailgate; this is also a known area of corrosion just on the edges.

Thanks lads, all noted

it is indeed Bali Blue. I've seen a few Discos and Range Rovers in this colour and really like it

Well deal was done and I drove it home today

I tried to check everything, but most likely forgot some of it haha

So far the only faults I've found are a broken air vent on the drivers side of the centre console (as mentioned earlier the silver adjuster is missing) and one of the front wheel arch rubbers is hanging off - both of which are being replaced at no cost

Just need to learn what all the buttons do now!
