Thule ski rack

I have a Thule roof bar (Rapid Aero, the ones that attach on the door seals) and Thule ski attachment setup (the one for 6 skis).

The rapid aero bars make a little bit of noise on their own, but the combination of the cross bars and the ski attachment makes a very, very loud whistling sound, which barely improves when the skis are in it. Very annoying when driving 1.5 hours to the nearest ski hill. Big Cry

I'm pretty sure a Thule fairing would fix the noise for the cross bars, especially after reading about a dramatic change for the better on other forums. Thumbs Up

However, with the ski rack extension on top, I'm not so sure. Would the fairing help reduce noise by sending the air over the ski rack, or make even more noise by trapping more air between the cross bars and the ski extension + skis and snowboards on it?? Rolling Eyes

Any thoughts, suggestions, personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I attached some photos for fun and so you can see what the rack looks like and what it's used for Smile

Have you the rubber strips in roof rails, the one that fills the cut out you slide the retaining bolts down? Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

It looks like your rubber strip is in place as your version looks to clamp around it Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

That is correct, however the rack still makes a very, very loud whistling sound at highway speeds. I'm open to any ideas to fix the problem, including buying a fairing or taping wathever should be taped if someone has a solution Smile

Hi,

I have the same bars. There are two ways to attach the Thule ski-rack(the version I use)
One way is what I see in your pictures. My ski rack slides in from the side.
You have to remove the rubber strip and slide the ski-rack in.
It's lower and there is no gap between my aerobars and the ski-rack.

can i ask if you have some sort of signature picture picker going on?

each post you are making has a huge random picture attached, could you tone down the size of them? it makes for hard reading Thumbs Up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis
