Advice re: detachable towbar, please?

Advice re: detachable towbar, please

I have a black LR2 HSE, have just been quoted 472.33 (inc VAT) for an after-market dealer-fitted detachable towbar plus electrics. Seems steep to me, especially as all I plan to do with it is put a cycle rack on it Shocked

Anyone out there think this is a good deal and I should just pay up and take the pain? Sheep

Your comments welcome.

4000 miles and she is going strong, BTW. All weather, all road conditions, on sand, gravel, mud, and shale, no faults at all. Except why-oh-why-oh-why do they supply that pitiful spare wheel? Banging Head

Just fitted a Witter Flange Towbar myself for £153.26 with single electrics. Thumbs Up

I wanted detachable but when I priced it fitted plus £80 for the LR software update I decided it was too expensive. Shocked

It depends how practical you are and how much you want to spend Question

I purchased mine from Towequipe who provided an excellent service and sent me a wiring diagram. They also do detachable to fit yourself - it was another £90 so I did not bother.

If you go for the dealer price check they include the update in the cost.

Will post later on how it goes.

Advice re: detachable towbar, the saga continues

My mistake re: original quote, the dealer has now explained that the price of £472 did not include two hours of labour, correct price is £750..... Rolling with laughter

Silly me.

What was the name of that company in Reading that comes to you and fits one for half the price?

Thanks for all of the great advice, by the way Thumbs Up .

Do I win a prize for the most stupidly over-priced LR2 accessory, I wonder?
