I had a failure of the fan module which wouldn’t turn the fans off so it had to be replaced. The rub is that the module only comes with the whole fan and cowling assembly – price from two stealers was over £600. Found a new module on ebay for £50 and changed it out in under five minutes… |

Yes. As you've already done it, this mean the fan is defective.

Lower grill is where the intercooler is placed.... Don't think it's a good idea to block it off... |

When my fan module went whilst in France, the main dealer just plugged a new on in! Could it be that abroad, just the module can be bought? 1998 300TDi Auto Disco, never to be forgotten. 2008 Auto TD4 Freelander2, now gone? 2013 Auto SD4 Freelander! After stripping the front of the car off a couple of dozen times I now block off the lower section of the bumper - the intercooler is very time consuming to unblock. Just remember to remove the protective sheet that you are using the block off the bumper before you get back to normal (tarmac) speeds. I have driven hundreds of miles with a completely blocked (cooling air flow) intercooler, with no obvious damage, but it does increase the fuel consumption.
