2008 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Auto Stornoway Grey

Radiator cooling fans

hello
Can I ask should both cooling fans come on together
My top one comes on, early I think but the lower one does not

Try them again with the Air Con on

One of them iirc comes on with the Air Con.

Hello, thanks for replies
I have tried turning on the aircon with a hot and cold engine fan not coming on.
I turned it by hand and found it stuck at first, mud in it could it be dead/fuse

Hello every one still need help here
I just tried powering the fan direct from battery not even a small spark as wire made contact to battery
Am I missing something or shall I call the fan dead

Could be the control module, think it's on front of rad, mine just failed on my 'new hse lux'. Im no mechanic but my dealer told me most fan faults come from the control module. I have no idea how you test the module.

Thanks I was thinking the same, but fan won't power up then wired direct so think it's the fan

2008 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Stornoway Grey

I had a failure of the fan module which wouldn’t turn the fans off so it had to be replaced. The rub is that the module only comes with the whole fan and cowling assembly – price from two stealers was over £600. Found a new module on ebay for £50 and changed it out in under five minutes…

Yes. As you've already done it, this mean the fan is defective.
If you're a little technically inclined, you could dismantle it and try to clean and repair it.
Also, judging from your avatar picture, you should take it easy with the mud and off-roading...

I did have a little go at getting the fans off, do I need to remove front bumper

Thinking off blocking the lower grill for radiator just for off road to try and stop scooping up mud in my rad
Do you think it would over heat anything

Lower grill is where the intercooler is placed.... Don't think it's a good idea to block it off...

When my fan module went whilst in France, the main dealer just plugged a new on in!
Could it be that abroad, just the module can be bought? 1998 300TDi Auto Disco, never to be forgotten.

Anyone know if I could use a fan from a different model landrover or after market fan

After stripping the front of the car off a couple of dozen times I now block off the lower section of the bumper - the intercooler is very time consuming to unblock. Just remember to remove the protective sheet that you are using the block off the bumper before you get back to normal (tarmac) speeds.

I have driven hundreds of miles with a completely blocked (cooling air flow) intercooler, with no obvious damage, but it does increase the fuel consumption. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Can I ask, what did you use to block bottom vent,and how do you attach it
