I don't know if the UK chicken farmers currently have a grievance but the dairy farmers are getting restless and with good cause. However, their target should be the supermarkets who seem to have quickly forgotten their promise to pay a fair price for milk. It seems the Germans are being beastly to the farmers; "Muller UK & Ireland Group chief executive Ronald Kers branded the group "militants" and said blockades could damage the dairy industry." If he wants to see militant farmers he should go to France. Low prices will do more damage to the industry than protesting farmers.

Well I know a few poor ones.
My brother in law has a dairy farm and is making a loss on every litre. In order to increase efficiency he bought more cows and took out loans to install robotic milkers as he can't afford to pay staff to do the milking 24/7. The problem is that when milk prices go down you can't tell the cows to stop making the stuff. He is basically running to stand still.
My other brother in law only gets by by running a few fields as a camp site which brings in more money than the farm does.
I know of a large potato grower who went bust last year after the previous wet summer.

The problem is that if you own your own farm you are asset rich but income poor. If you are a tenant then you are more income poor. The only guys who make decent money are the big arable farmers in the east who plant thousands of acres of crops and hope that the weather is kind to them.

Poor hard done English farmers with their £10s of thousand of combine harversters -huge great tractors- acres of farmland- big dutch barns and heavens knows what else beside not forgetting government handouts. Oh how sorry I feel for them! not.

Exactly, I know one who regularly boasts about the different handouts and subsidies he receives while he swans around in his RRS or relaxes in his new Conservatory.
