England 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Baltic Blue

Plaform is a modified version of the Evqoue LR-MS. Basically it's 8cm longer and has a modified rear suspension to give you more useable boot space as suspension no longer intrudes into the boot.
Only available with the SD4 190bhp engine with 9 speed auto or 6 speed manual from the Evoque. Engine has some modifications to reduce fuel consumption.
Optional Active Driveline is currently not an option in the UK market.

Ingenium engine only confirmed for the 2016MY 2 wheel drive version but..................

Only SD4 in this country, but the petrol turbo is available elsewhere. Indeed I believe it's the only option in the States.

Does it really matter what's underneath the bodywork? Every manufacturer uses one platform, why should LR be any different? 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

None of that was a criticism of the DS - there's nothing wrong with the LR-MS platform, it's the best of it's type at this price point! Underneath the bodywork the DS is a very good car - it's the body and the price tag which let it down...

I'm actually interested in all the 'under the bodywork' stuff. I like to know how things like the Haldex and the Terrain Response work - partly just out of interest, but also because if you understand how these things work you also understand how to get the best out of them.

I just think the DS is a good competent Land Rover in its own right, we know it fails as a replacement for the Fl2, but as a stand alone model it could easily sit side by side with the Freelander in the range.

Ask any LR Dealer and they should tell you the Discovery Sport is not a replacement for the Freelander but an all new model.

It just happens that in order to produce the Discovery Sport they had to free up production capacity and to do that they stopped building the Freelander at about the time they started building the Discovery Sport.

Rumour is that there is a Freelander replacement under consideration.

Agreed - as a 7-seat Evoque Max it's great. My problem is that I don't want an Evoque Max, and what I do want is no longer being made. What's really annoying is that the DS with a more LR-like body and more sensible pricing would be a perfect Freelander replacement. That's all it would take - just a few differently-shaped bits of bodywork and a re-think of the marketing - the basics are all there. We can hope, but 'rumour ... under consideration' doesn't sound like it'll appear any time soon.

I thought Evoque was the Freelander in a posh frock whereas DS is merely topshop Mr. Green Now:

Well there were a lot DSs at Gaydon, as you would expect, and for what it is worth I think they look a lot better in the flesh, none of the photos I have seen have done them justice. Whether the car is right for you or not is another matter. Just my opinion.

The battery sits under a horizontal bar which is bolted to both front inner wings. Is the bar to strengthen the structure of the vehicle? Where do you put the boot cover when the 7 seats are in use? Polite answers only please!

Same as with the Disco I suppose, leave it at home, other than that you run the risk of it getting trodden on. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

If you have limo tints you do not even need to use the roller blind! I've never used mine once Wink if you will be constantly using the +2 seats then I would just remove the blind permanently! MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

Poland 2014 Freelander 2 2.0T HSE Auto Santorini Black

BTW.
The "secret" technology of compact 7-seaters was well known in '80 (!!!).

This is Rover/Austin Montego Estate with usable third row of seats.
Total car lenght was no longer than current Freelander.
Access to the third row of seats was very easy via tailgate, no via rear doors.
You were able to hide(fold) seats under the boot floor.
Full spare wheel was under the child seat (of course it was much smaller than SUV's wheel)

Saw a compact seven seater in the Hertage Museum at Gaydon today, was way before the 80's , closer to the 60's. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior
