Those DS prices are pretty shocking, but have you been watching what’s been happening to the prices of generic cars over the last 2 or 3 years?! Shocked If you’re not too fussed what you drive, the BMW 3 Series now starts at £32,445. Meanwhile, a Ford Edge now starts at £37,000 to £46,000!!

The old starting price for the Freelander 2, in the low-ish £20,000’s, will just about buy you a scum spec 1.0 Mondeo now Shocked

Unless, by some miracle, the £ returns to the €1.40 level, this pricing is the new reality.

If ever there were a case required for holding on to the Freelander until it falls to bits, you have just made it! The company is now definitely chasing "new money", and whilst I can afford it, many traditional LR aficionados out there can't or won't pay that sort of money. I suspect that this vehicle is now primarily aimed at the Fleet sector more than anything, so expect there to be a glut of them on the second hand market in 12 months and beyond, with equally bad residuals. MY13 HSE Lux.......faultless since new.

Having a browse and play about on the LR website on this new DS - looks a nice car with some nice facelifted upgrades but the prices... Shocked

yes the entry level is 31k for a pauper spec so no that bad for a modern LR ..... BUT when 31k can buy you a very nice fully loaded Jap or Korean 4x4 that's just as capable for the average every day drive about.... really not worth it IMO.... overpriced unreliable and with a generally very poor dealer support system.

and why the Censored do they always show a LHD model on the UK website ????? FFS its a British brand name, at least show some respect to the British market !!!!!

Interesting video. Lots of real improvements, although the huge front overhang and terrible approach angle are most un LR like and the adoption of a BMW-alike gear lever is a real shame Sad

The front approach angle is designed for shopping centres! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I would guess I will be the only one to cheer the demise of the Auto Gear “Knob” and cheer the return of a real Lever.

Hated the way you need to look at the gear knob when manoeuvring in tight spaces/car parks etc, I find a lever which stops at each end of normal travel much better.

I know some people would say “you get used to it” but the same with spongy brakes, you get used to them Wink Regards

David

Lovely i6 has now gone, but not me......

Please let me know if anything in my post offends you, as I may wish to offend you again......

I like the way that the video majors on dynamic headlights and traction control, adaptive cruising etc. It's electronic stuff that is not that expensive to add to a vehicle once the sensors are in place and is actually becoming standard. My friend has a Kia saloon car loaded with gizmos and even my wife's new Suzuki Swift has got most of what's on offer and you can get a full spec new one for about £17k . 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

If it’s anything like the similar item in the RRS, it’ll be so riddled with inexplicable safety interlocks that it’ll be a serious distraction until you learn your way around them all. I might get used to it after 6 months or so, but I didn’t in the 1500 miles that I drove one; it left me stuck in the middle of a junction, twice, with it refusing to allow me to do what I wanted. Not until I’d shouted at it a lot! Laughing

It’s also nice to be able to shift from one side of the car to the other (without the gear lever getting in the way) if someone’s parked too close to the driver’s door to get in! Rolling Eyes

I note that in both the marketing blurb and online configurator, that there is NO mention whatsoever of InControl Apps. Anywhere. Which makes me think that now that CarPlay/Android Auto is fitted as standard, they have quietly dropped it after their lover's tiff with Bosch. (the original developers)

Perhaps they are following in the footsteps of L494 and this theme will continue through the range for 20MY

https://www.ovalnews.com/2019/04/official-...arged.html

Other than snazzy headlights and taillights and a new front bumper, I cannot for the life of me understand the ramped-up price points. Everything is now an option to bring it up to former HSE Luxury specifications, and as mentioned earlier, to do it on a like for like against the one that we have in the family, the options that were standard on a 17MY are in excess of £8k, which is bonkers!

I think I'll wait for the new Corsa at the end of next month.......... Whistle Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter MY13 HSE Lux.......faultless since new.
