United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Baltic Blue

Having drunk all three of these Ales over the last 6 months or so, I am as speechless as Peter Eels that Timmy Taylor's got the Gold!

Oakham is far superior in my opinion, and all the Salopian beers look and taste the same - they just seem to change the name of them periodically.

There are a plethora of Ales out there that trump Timothy Taylor's - I wonder how they came up with that as the Gold winner....too many Brewdogs consumed by the panel methinks! Foraging near Gaydon....

Just like wines or Ports one's preference for a particular example is a very individual experience. Cask conditioned beers are no exception to this. From decades of downing pints I have never placed any Timothy Taylor brew into the exceptional category - but there's no doubting the fact that they do brew decent beers.

My favourite Derbyshire local - a "free" house, owned and operated by father and son, always have on hand pump 6 or 7 "real ales" plus an additional 1 or 2 dispensed (jug'd) directly from the barrel. Due to the enthusiastic clientele plus high volume of consumption and the professionalism of the owners I and my friends have always been served with excellent fresh lively beers from near and far. From small micro breweries and from slightly lager regional brewers. Every drinker in that pub has his/her individual favourites. And rightly so. It's predominantly an ale drinkers pub - not a flash Harry's lager lounge.

That pub also has other assets that ensure its popularity and thereby profitability to compliment its excellent "real ales". It's cosy stone walled interior has not changed in donkey's years - there's no juke box - no one arm bandits, (kids only allowed in the very smart conservatory not at the bar) - good variety of fresh, made in their own kitchen cobs - no smelly vinegar pots on the tables (in fact no hot food to stink the bar out in curry or other aromas) - an excellent welcoming open log fire - and finally a genuine smile and greeting from the bar staff when you arrive. Champion, it's about time I paid another visit Thumbs Up
