I'm looking at relaying my patio. I looked into decking but have ruled that out. Has anyone any experience of natural stone paving? A fella in the pub said it could be slippy? I'm looking at indian sandstone flags which will cost a small fortune but I don't want to buy something that when wet i'll slip over on!

decking can be green and slippy, indian stone is varied often with a roughish riven surface, mine is black limestone and doesn't seem very slippy. the old patio was quite slippy as tony found out during a forum meet, that was green moss on slabs made from a grey slate ex farmhouse roof.

Cheers CG, the stuff we've seen has a riven finish to it, sounds like it will be ok. I asked the wife about your grey slate but she wants a different colour, sorry. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Many many years ago I bought ex council footpath slabs and broke them up for crazy paving. Lot cheaper than any other way of doing the job and non sippery as well Ex 2010 Freelander2 GS-e Diesel manual Silver owner |

I might just take a trip CG, I've two weeks off work soon. I've seen a company in Bedale plus one very close to me in Bradford. Might just be worth a trip out. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

It must be grim up north, they have been harvesting around here for a while now - barley, oats, rape. We have Indian sandstone around the house. The only place it gets slippy is on the north side in the winter. A dose of an algaecide like "wet & forget" should cure that though. Never pressure wash them as my neighbour does or you can break up the surface. GONE - '07 TD4 GS manual Zermatt Silver LONG GONE - '55 Norton Dominator 99 SS cafe racer |

Indian stone/slate is very varied there is a myriad of choices sandstone slate limestone all in a bewildering assortment of colours and hues sometimes even in the same batch. I had to send 1/4 of my slate back as it didnt even look remotely like the rest.

Had Indian sandstone laid a few years back & very happy with it - especially with the presence of fossilised plants.
