Interesting graph Alex - always wondered how the needle/graphic stayed so stable/fixed despite a variety of conditions, eg climbing a long hill, towing, hot/cold weather - it is a 'fix' really!

I have a Bluetooth smart phone app run dongle thingy fault code reader that can read values such as the coolant temperature and battery voltage - I might set it up and see how the temperature responds under various conditions. 2016 BMW X3 30d SE in red

This thread is relevant to my interests!

If the temp gauge could be reprogrammed to actually be a gauge rather than the useless idiot light that it is right now I would be very interested.

If it can be done with a simple reflash with SDD even better!

EDIT

I just realised that you have done your reprogramming on a diesel, but I have a petrol...are the instrument cluster calibration files the same (i'd imagine not)

Very interested in the firmware update to get the time & instant consumption in the message center, as well as the gear selection.

I have an SDD and am quite familar with it, done a fair bit of diagnostics & programming on the Jags... 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

Initially I've corrected only the map for the diesel. Later for petrol too.

You can find the file for gear display and temperature correction for both diesel and petrol here:

Password: revision2

Yes, it can be programmed with SDD, by using the engineering mode, after you replaced the original file with the modified one.

Hi Alex,

it took me some time to find free weekend for reflash Smile I did it this weekend and really found it very nice function.
I had the problem with steering column lock, the lock worked couple of times after reflash and then stopped. Instrument cluster showed message "steering column locked" but actualy the steer was free and yes engine didn't start. I tried hard reset on battery and engine started again but after couple other starts same message and not starting.
I solved the problem temporary, I edited CCF where steering column lock was changed to "no steering column lock" or something like that. The car starts, gear indication works well but steering column doesn't lock anymore. I'd like to have it working.

Good job Alex

I did the video and couple pictures too but then I saw yours on youtube which is very similar to mine Wink

Try to reprogram it with the version posted here.
When I've gave you the file, I forgot that I have IMMO OFF on my engine ECU and I didn't (re)computed some checksums because there was no need. The files posted here have those checksums computed correctly and that steering column lock (which is part of the authorization system) is working properly.
Thousands apologies... Bow down

That indicator/check lamp is for Fuel Burning Heater. It's just a bulb check and it's specific to MY2010 and later panels. As you don't have it, pay no attention to it.

Indeed, the panel could be for diesel cars, but I doubt it, as it has inside all the necessary maps for both diesel and petrol and, based on some checks, it selects the proper maps.
I will investigate further and I will see what I can find out.

I have to doff my cap to you Alex... Amazing stuff.

Out of curiosity what language does the clusters use?

For petrol (gasoline) use/try data file AH52-14C088-DD.
So the set of files will be:
SBL: 6H52-14C025-AA
EXE: AH52-14C026-AD <- this one is replaced
DAT: AH52-14C088-DD

ccsnet
Having only the final binary file, the cluster software was studied at the machine code level. Meaning processor instruction level.
At this level, you can't be sure which language was uses prior compiling, but I am pretty sure, from the instructions' flow and method of allocating resources, that was a variant of C.

Alex, did you ever had the idea to translate all instrument cluster messages like "drivers door open", "bonnet open" to your native or other language? It looks like that the messages can be repaced in the file for unused language and some sums recounted, right? Rolling Eyes
