Somebody has just got into my paypal account

and paid £80 to themselves

having to change all my passwords as a precaution as it could be down to spyware

We've been hit with credit card fraud twice, but the cc company handled it all and refunded the fraudulant transations. Each time, they called to check the transactions were genuine but had to replace cards. On the statement, it shows the thief trying out the card first with a small discrete amount, then going for a big spend soon after. Phil

I have used eBay and PayPal for years - purchased loads of stuff from all over the world, and so far (touch wood) never had any problems at all with bandits, crooks or dodgy dealers Thumbs Up
Maybe I have just been lucky, but I thought a positive word is in order here as an alternative to the negative one above Thumbs Up 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

I too have used them for years and only had this one problem - but that is when you find out there protection is useless - not when things are going well Sad

this isn't a purchase i have made

somebody has hacked my computer and got my password.

Login and paid themselves an ammount of my cash

Not purchased anything, paypal say they had it flagged due to it been unusal to transfer the exact amount of credit balance to a never before used email address and using a different IP address.

But they still have to wait for the other to respond etc etc.

Looks hopefull, but then again i am not getting my hopes up Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

There is a credit card fiddle going on at the moment that involves a computer randomly generating credit card numbers. The perpetrators then use the numbers on websites with less than fantastic security ie ones that don't ask for the 3 digit security number is used. They keep feeding in numbers until Bingo, one works and then they shop until the card gets flagged up by the bank/ credit card company
My mother had her Abbey Visa card cloned and used to buy £1000 worth of music downloads and phone top-ups. Abbey were right on top of it and called her to check as they thought that the spending pattern and items being purchased were unusual for her........................... she is 80 and never uses that card for any purchases, it doubles as a bank card and hole in the wall card. They fully refunded the money spent, but here is the disturbing thing - it is not worth their while to chase up the crims who are carrying out this trick. Really, how much of our money do banks have to loose before "it will be worth our while persueing the criminals"?? How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?

Nick,

Depending on you credit card, (assuming you funded paypal with a C/C), you may be able to do a "charge back" whereby the C/C company refund your money and then charge paypal for it.

I had a problem using paypal recently (but not on ebay), C/C company refunded me immediately and claimed back the money direct from paypal. ______________________
