Biofuel in petrol

Just been reading that the fuel companies will be increasing biofuels in petrol to 10%. This is to bring the fuel into line with the limits set by the EU for 2020. Apparently it will affect the mpg of smaller engines and increase emissions. I don't know if the same EU laws will effect diesel at all, I know diesel engines can run on a lot of different oils, biofuels one of them.

Heres the link to the news article.

Perhaps when that happens, it will be beneficial to pay extra for premium petrol such as V-Power which apparently offers better economy. I am assuming/hoping that this new rule only applies to standard petrol but I guess that is wishful thinking Rolling Eyes LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

As I understand it, the UK signed up to a directive that includes car fuel, electricity generation etc. I recon even the higher octane petrol such as v-power etc will have the 10% biofuel in it. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Maybe the higher octane and additives will help to compensate for the bio fuel Confused LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

When it happens you'll have to let us know how your fiesta manages? If it is really bad a lot of motorists will be kicking up a fuss! Imagine if cars fails MOT's on emissions simply because the fuel has been changed. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Will do. I have noticed a slight decrease in MPG with the winter tyres on. Not that they have had many days in their ideal temp zone with this rubbish mild winter we have had LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

We had a flurry here a couple of weeks ago but as for a proper covering of snow, I think we've shot it this winter
