Diesel smell in boot

Hi Guys, I bought my MY07 (2.2 GS) FL2 in December and on occasions I've noticed a smell of diesel, this morning I pulled my work coat on that's always stored in the boot of the car overnight when I noticed that there's a massive smell of diesel on it. Is there any common area that I should look in the boot too see if I can find anything?. I've got 11 months left on the warranty so would rather get it found now and repaired (at their expense).

Cheers,

Rich

is there any sign of leak below the rear seat? there is a rubber seal for the fuel tank there, or behind the plastic panel were the fuel filler is

Hi NPinks, I cannot see anything, but will have a dig and see if there's anything I've missed as I wasn't sure if there was a known weak spot, but the smell seems to be getting worse rather than better, I noticed it while driving a few days ago and disregarded it, but now that it seems to be leaking into anything that's in the boot (routinley just my work gear) then it's becoming more of an issue.

I'll get the torch out and have a sniff about.

Cheers,

Rich

i had the fuel sender done, and there is a carpet flap, which shows a rubber seal, i believe they used that to access the top section of the tank and they then went on to replace the top tank seal as my car developed a diesel leak when filled to the brim and parked sloping on my drive, which i could smell (only outside) and found it dripping below

If your in warranty, get a loan car and let them search for it Thumbs Up

Fuel filler would be my guess, as it's the only part of the fuel system above the level of the boot floor. But if fuel is getting into the boot itself the leak must be significant, so definitely worth tracking down and fixing sooner rather than later, before everything stinks of diesel.

I don't believe there are any known weak spots in this area - certainly the only time I've smelled diesel inside the car is whilst carrying a jerry can of the stuff!

Well, just thought I'd update this in case anyone else has a similar problem in future. I took out the rear carpet/matt and gave it a damn good clean and shampoo and the smell is no more. Thinking that the previous owner must have had a spill and the small was getting worse with the bad weather and having my wet work gear placed on top. So would appear that the car wasn't leaking after all that.............(sigh)

Thanks for the tips Guys. Hopefully this one is now resolved.

Rich
