It was brought to my attention that my "third brake light" on top of the tailgate is not working. I purchased the correct bulb for replacement, but I can't seem to get underneath the housing. I opened the tailgate and removed the plastic on top, but there is no access to the bulb/brake light from there.

On the outside of the vehicle, there are no screws to remove the housing, so I am pretty much stuck.

Does anyone know how to get at this bulb?

I've attached a photo of the part I removed. I also used an Hex wrench to remove the off-white "box" that I thought was the bulb housing, but it is not. I'm assuming it actually has to do with the defroster.
