hi there i was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction,
my heated wing mirrors don't seem to be working on my FL2 HSE, they stayed misted up on my 15 minute journey this morning surely they should have cleared in that time
any suggestions?

The heater circuit for each mirror is fused separately via separate door modules so would be highly unlikely to be a fuse or a module if both did it.
Supposing there is nothing wrong, maybe it was the conditions only that stopped them from working.

A 2008 description says:

Could it be that although the temperature was not enough to trigger the heating circuit, a flick of the windscreen/rear screen wipers would have done

I thought they only worked with the heated rear screen on. Haven't read the manual that closely though. Poke it, Poke it, make it do it again!!

My quotes were taken off the LR Topix site, from the respective OP's car year and owners manual, looking at the wiring diagram there's also no correlation between the heated mirrors and any other window heating.

Seems to be purely down to temperature sensing and/or wiper operation. The wiper operation seems to make sense because clearing a window should mean the mirrors want clearing also.

That's the operation but maybe the OP has a problem

Mine work only when the rear screen is on and they clear in about 20 seconds

Agree with Mona Geeza mine misted up earlier this week, turned on heated rear window and after about 15-20 seconds door mirrors were clear. Turned off heated rear window and a while later they started to mist up again and soon cleared when I turned rear window heater back on.

Is nothing straight forward on our cars , from my owners manual.

Mine come on with the heated screen too, its a pain, as Rch.. says, after a while they cool and mist up again, the previous car, a Merc, they were on based on temperature and wipers, when driving they never misted up once, clever those Germans

I must admit to reading manuals from start to finish, sad I know but I tend to believe what is written also. If it states 'automatic and wipers' operation, where does the switching on the rear screen heater come in, it just shouldn't be

It does my head in when now'ts straight forward

Perhaps LR intended it to be that way and changed their minds after the printing job was done

Mirror heating would be no good if it came on depending on the outside temperature only, ie, if its frosty say, as when its humid, ie warm, they mist up as opposed to icing up in cold weather, so you need to be able to control them manually do you not??

My discussion now is not about the logic of it, it's now about what is written in the manual, and as Taz mentioned, his Merc's mirror heaters were automatic based on temperature and wipers exactly as it states in the MY2011 manual.

I know what you mean, I have been in freezing fog were conditions suddenly change and everything mists up when the temp rises and it becomes humid. The C class also had an aerodynamic mirror design that keeps the glass free from water when driving, keeping them clear, LR have opted for little whirlpools in the corner of the window to keep us amused and our eyes off the rain sodden mirror.

I will have a look in my handbook and check if it refers to Mercs also, be interesting.
