Aftermarket GPS - Garmin Nuvi

I've got a 2007 Freelander XS. I've been told that there is an aftermarket kit which enables the Garmin Nuvi to be fitted in the dash where the LR in-built unit would normally sit. Has anyone heard of such a kit?

This thread describes fitting a TomTom, similar install with the Nuvi I expect.

Monty,
The Sony is a good fit, but, be aware that Sony don't provide any support for this unit anymore as Sony have pulled out of the SatNav market .
I know cos I've got one.
For example, the speed camera warnings disappeared and there's no way Sony will help get it back. Neither can I update maps Big Cry

Have a search on this forum for the unit Taztastic fitted to his GS Thumbs Up

Screen looks more 'fitted' than the Sony unit, there is plenty if room for it. Some on here have also fitted 7 " tablets running sat nav software.

Taztastic, what unit did you use and how did you fit it? It looks excellent.

I found this company sells Garmin and kit together. As I already had my Garmin they wouldn't sell me just the kit alone, so I didn't use them. Hence I cannot verify if they are any good or not.

To install the sat nav yourself then this link is worth looking at

Since I've installed my Garmin, I have a few white lines appear which is common to the 1490T model. I can put up with it for now but will eventually change to a TomTom which also has a larger display.
