I've got a deal for an ex-demo (or at least I thought I had) TD4 SE auto. The dealer has now told me that he has no auto's but might be able to get a manual to my 'spec' in time for the deal date. I really liked the auto box/commandshift on my LRE days out but what is the general feeling on here - is it worth holding on for an auto?

Try both and then decide for yourself. You may be able to source an auto from another dealership. All I can tell you is that the auto is worth the wait.

I have had a Man Fl1, then 2 Auto Discos and now a Man Fl2 - I paid £1000's adding Auto and it was not reflected in P/X values so this time decide to save some money and go for better Mpg.

The Man is good - though I do miss Auto but I have saved a lot of money!

If I was looking ex-demo/used I might go for Auto next time if figures were right - but i would not pay extra again on new price.

At the end of the day you pay your money and make your choice - try both and see what you think.

Former forum frequenter Car Fraz, first had a manual and then for one reason and another had the oppurtunity to change the car which he did for an Auto, and he said it was so much better.

I like command shift for the engine braking and giving you that control aspect, but also being able to switch from standard auto over to sport depending on how you feel.....and the difference is surprising.

Thanks everyone. I must confess that my gut instinct is to hang on for the auto even if it means not being an F2 owner for a bit longer!

An auto is also much better if you have to drive in offroad situations - you cannot cook the clutch, even though the hydraulics can overheat they are cooled pretty quickly. Go auto! How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?

I chose the manual over the auto based on LR's fuel consumption figures. (what a joke they are )

Drove an auto when mine was in for a software update and prefered it so next time I will get the auto. But, it's down to personal choice at the end of the day ______________________

Having tried both there's no comparison ..... the manual is fine, the auto is totally brilliant. Try then buy!!  Life is not a dress rehearsal!
