Nice earnings £1.6m for a little bit of work for a short time, let alone money for promotional products which will bring in a few more £m no doubt. Sorry but sportsmen are overpaid compared with the average worker. Ex 2010 Freelander2 GS-e Diesel manual Silver owner

I'm not a mouthpiece for professional sports but "£1.6m for a little bit of work for a short time" isn't the whole picture. It's more like £1.6m for two decades of unremitting personal gruelling hard work & dedication to a personal goal, with other of life's aspects put to one side.

It's like me asking for £100k a year for being an IT specialist. What I do is relatively trivial but it's the years of work, study, learning, personal effort etc. It just happens that sport is somewhat better paid.

Oh and by the way, I am pleased for him. ...

I'm not a big fan of Murray but the guy has fought and trained hard to get to where he is today.

Unlike some of today's cyclists, who get a helping hand from the illegal substances they pump into themselves. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

I doubt he's been below the breadline though, he has had income for other matches to see him through till today's bumper pay packet. He's also given his winnings from the Aegon tournament to the Royal Marsden Bow down Bow down p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

All credit to Murray for running around in 30 deg heat.... however I've got a firm suspicion that Ivan Lendl is due a lot of credit for getting Murray to this point.

Whatever Murray pays him, it's clearly been worth it.

It caused me to reflect on Warren Gatland & the sh Censored itstorm he flew into for dropping BO'D for the recent Lions match. OK one game, too early to draw conclusion etc but it strikes me a good example of a man in possession of the data,
willing to take & push the tough decisions needed for success.

Or I may be over-romanticising it. Who knows? ...

Fantastic! A thrilling match to watch too, 3 straight sets really doesn't tell the whole story.

Been waiting a looooong time for a Brit to win the mens championship...was worth it Smile

Agree re Lendl, he seems to have been the final piece in the jigsaw to get Murray at the Federer/Nadal/Djokovic level. Murray has made strides in mastering his thoughts and emotions with the help of Lendl compared with a few years ago...kudos indeed.

Now...England to win the world cup and I can die happy Cool FL2 2011 SD4 XS in Galway Green
