So - done plenty of searching on here and I've come to the conclusion ( having checked turbo pipes etc plus been in the local garage with the guard off ) that I need a new rear oil gasket.

As this is no cheap task I thought I'd throw it out there and see if any one agrees....

Its a VERY small leak and not every day. The locals had the it on the ramp, cleaned and then rechecked for any thing that looks like a leak.... its clean.

Only prob found was the sump its self just needed pinching a bit.

I've looked top and bottom my self and just can not see any thing either.... this means even sticking my hands down the bay which I cleaned a month or two back.

As you'll see from the video the leak seems to be coming from the left / back of the guard near what I'm pretty sure is the gear box also leading me to the thought of new Rear Oil Gasket....

If the leak is as slight as you seem to be describing is it worth worrying about? It sounds like the sort of thing I'd probably just leave, but keep an eye on. Different if you were still under warranty, perhaps, but I assume not.

I think your sig quote started life as 'Land Rover' rather than 'Freelander' and dates back to 'Series' cars. Amusing though.

Update - my baby is in today and in bits

It does look like the oil seal as I got the chance to have a look at the box stripped and you can see where its come from.

Should be back together tomorrow ready for the belt tensioner.... AC may be as well but thats got to go else where.

I'm hoping its not the condenser its self as I got the chance to have a good look but what I think is a drain in the bottom.

You can see the trail left to right from it although the source is dead center of the rad and it. The good news is I can not see damage in the front and there is no way any thing could bounce up due to the sil so heres hoping as that could be another £350ish.

No other issues on the horizon so should be good for 4 years....
