And they wonder why we call them stealers

Freelancer in for 2nd service today

Received quote and breakdown of service items and costs by email £446

Decided did not want windscreen wash at £6 plus vat so £440

On collection advised of slight play in track rod end which was told not covered by warranty but told not to worry as only slight.

Asked then if all the service jobs had been done, wheels removed, checked and rotated, informed yes and showed work sheet
Was then informed wheels did not require rotation on second service, as it did not appear on work sheet even though my quote said it did.

Invited service receptionist to come and look at my car and showed her the black indelible pen marks I had made on wheels and nuts that were not the locking ones and asked what was the probability a mechanic could take all the wheels off and replace all the nuts in eaxctly the same holes and line them all up perfectly.

She then looked very embarrassed and went to see Service Manager who I heard ask someone out of sight whether the wheels had been removed, could hear no more as door then quickly shut.

Service manager then returned and admitted mechanic had used mirror to check wheels and brakes

I expressed my concern that if that had not been done what else had been left out and queried track rod end finding, pointing out at 13500 miles was not what I would expect. Also reminded them on its 3rd gearbox and second set of front wheel bearings which probably had some bearing on rod condition.

Well track rod end now ordered on warranty, car kept for service to be redone and another phones call later from Service Manager to apologise again and inform me it would be FOC

The dealer has responded in a positive way and am glad for that. I certainly expect at £110 per hour for a mechanic to do some labour and applied the sundries that all help to increase the cost to the customer.

Not having had the keys given to me was unable to check my other little traps and perhaps maybe why they were so keen to stop me taking my car home. Having had some low mileage land rovers before I have found out retrospectively that dealers had not replaced items that I have been charged for, and as the mileage was low took the view it did not need replacement.

Just glad remembered this time to take some precautions against paying for nothing.

Censored STEALERS

One very good reason to use a good dependable local independant garrage, My cars tend to only go to dealers when my man cant fix it and thats when hes gone through his little network of specialists with there boxes of tricks.

A good small indie depends on his reputation and work for his lively hood so wont try and rip you off. HSE TD4 Stornoway Grey ★ Rear Spoiler ★ Black Leather Interior ★ Panoramic Roof ★ Navigation with Bluetooth ★ 19 " Alloys ★ Alpine Stereo 10 Disc Auto changer and Ipod connection and lots of other nice toys ★

That is absolutely shocking. Are you willing to name and shame the dealer in question? My dealer gives a breakdown of tyre tread depth, brake condition etc. for both an A and B service. I assumed they would have to take the wheels off to do it but maybe not. I'm beginning to lose faith in Main Dealers and tend to agree with the previous post. Most owners assume because you pay over the odds you are getting a quality service. My uncle runs a Discovery 4 and at his last service got a call to say his wipers were worn did he want them changing. He said yes without asking how much. When he got there he was presented with a bill for 80 quid. Needless so say he refused to pay it and told them to take them off.

Wonder if they used to service mine looking in the mirror then, maybe they did as the wheels never seemed to be touched and I know they never ever rotated them, ok maybe they made sure they went round, thats about it,
£400 sir, thank you for your custom.
Got a free? cup of Douwe Eggberts though Thumbs Up

Shocked Shocked Laughing Laughing
And I thought that I was the only one that made such marks when the car went into dealers, during warranty period.
It seems that doesn't happen only in Eastern countries, but on the most Western too. And even on LR's country... What the heck... Greed and laziness seems to be anywhere human nature is...
Thumbs Up

Why do you think that don't want you to take it in for a service and wait for it, they want it for the day, that way you don't know how quickly they push them through the service bay. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Service @Team Valley

Had a 45k mile service (third) on my GS yesterday at Team Valley - been using them for about 4 years now and boy do they live up to their reputation. Great bunch of guys as well.

Told to be in by 8:30am and I would be out by 10am, got a call at 8:35 as I turned off the A1 to make sure I was near as they had the bay ready and I was out at 10:05 am having paid the princely sum of £280.

Free coffee and the offer of a bacon sandwich to boot as I waited. They are doubling the size of their workshop to cope with demand.

Incidentally I travel 75 miles each way for the service and save over £130 in the process rather than use the local dealer who would not budge on price. Tony

The difference with TVLR is they don't have to subsidise a big swanky showroom, overpaid sales staff, they can concentrate on the workshop side and get praise from every one that uses them Thumbs Up p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Seems I going to have to have a word with the Graham's Tony, I would call the offer of a Bacon Butty preferential treatment : Laughing

Can't agree more with Tonys post, great team and great service, I'm on the doorstep of Stratstones in Stockton, but like Tony chose to travel ( not as far) up to TVLR

Toeknee, they probably know that you would feel insulted with a Bacon Butty, now a Carvery, that's a different matter Whistle p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Only cheap out of date biscuits in ours Big Cry

Landrover policy seem to be serve idiots only, treat everyone else as one, perhaps not nationwide yet but in rural Wiltshire for sure.

Going into a Landrover dealership is really taking the fun out of ownership, have popped into a few other dealerships of late and have been surprised that some dealerships actual can talk with customers and more importantly LISTEN.

Lespes - I like the idea of indelible ink on the wheel nuts, sure way to catch them out. Shocking though it is, why you should even have to do this in the first place is what gets me. You pay hard earned cash and a lot of it at that to get the so called experts to do the work and have to put tell tale traps and tactics in play to make sure they have actually completed the work.

Be interested to know what other ways and traps you or others on here use to go about checking that items have been removed / checked / changed - stand fast TVLR customers!!! MY2010 TD4 HSE Santorini Black, 19" Alloys, Almond Leather, Lux Pack, Rear Spoiler, Adaptive Xenons
