new steering rack

I have decided to buy and fit a new steering rack to hopefully stop the pas filter blocking,,, anyone recommend a supplier ?

Ok well hopefully the title has got your attention because I would appreciate your views,,,,,,,,,,I have still got an
issue with my pas filter blocking, thought of fitting a filter over the existing filter but I have decided not to,,, LR have quoted between £1000 and £1600 to change the rack but funds are a bit tight at the moment so,,,,,,,,,,, I have a new filter and am considering removing the filter and fitting a "filter less" reservoir after I have flushed the system again !!!

will it do any damage to run without the filter ??? whats the point of a filter this fine ????

You need the filter, if it's blocking it's doing its job.
Removing it means all the Censored is just being circulated. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

yes I agree but we are only talking about very very fine particles that block up the micro mesh on the filter,,,

surely the system should still work with these fine particles floating in the fluid ??

The filter is there for a reason, if you flush the system completely and they are still appearing, you need to find the source. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

I think you need to do some more investigating on this. It's not a frequent problem or it would have shown up on the forum before this. Running without a filter, as previous posts have said, will almost certainly damage whatever the filter is there to protect. More important, though, is to find out what is causing the blockage. It sounds as if something is wearing and creating "swarf". This can't be good. What does your dealer think about likely cause? Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

If money's tight then stop driving it, save up and get it fixed correctly, your likely just to do more damage as the part that's obviously wearing and causing the swarf will fail, your previous attempts have not fixed it.

The filter is there to protect the pump, hydraulic spools and seals. These are tight tolerance components and eventual breakdown will occur if the foreign bodies are allowed to circulate without a filter.

I changed my rack in the summer. I bought a new rack from www.ontracksteering.com for £320. They also quoted me about £240 for a reconditioned unit. They are based in Cornwall. The rack was fitted for £150 by my local independent. All has been well since. - 2007(57) XS Auto, Rimini Red, Alpaca Leather.
