Hi about to join the FL2 army with a used black 08 HST.

One plan I have to modify it, is to add roof mounted spotlights.

I'm having the LR roof rails and 2 cycle carriers (as I'll be using it for a lot of camping holidays with the bikes), though I fancy having 2 spotlights for nighttime illumination when we turn up late to the campsite. (yes, and because they look nice ).

SO I haven't seen actually any FL2's with the sort of setup I'm after. I was looking to add a one off (extra) cross brace then stick 2 of these on it

I don't need them permanently wired in - and these ones can be plugged into the cigarette sockets when required.

Any other thoughts/ideas, or is the fact I can't see a decent example of one enough to imply it shouldn't be done?!

The only FL2s I recall having seen with roof-mounted spotlights are the G4s (google G4 Freelander 2 for images), but they are mounted on a roof rack so probably not quite what you want. Look good, though - on the G4s at least!

Hmm. Not sure about those LEDs. They'd look OK on a Defender, but are perhaps a bit unsubtle for an FL2?

Also, is a 55W spotlight not a bit bright for a campsite late at night? (Just asking - I haven't personally done any camping since I was at school!)

the 55w is a touch bright, may look to change the bulb or even better look for a diffuser if it's for near range stuff.

Not too keen on those futuristic LEDs tbh. I like things looking classic!

I agree with the first response. the ones that you've linked look tat

Experience from my defender of old was that a set of four forward mounted lights on a bar dropped the mpg by about 3mpg. The additional driving light they threw compared to the main beam plus hella spots on an A-bar was not that much, other than to see over the hedges a little more.

You also need to think about what type of light you want. Spots are just that, a long thin narrow beam to throw forward from the car. pretty rubbish if you wanting all round light. A fog light would be more suited as it'll throw a wide light. better than that might be a work light which will throw light in any direction and me more useful at the side of the car when you are at a campsite.

a quick search on ebay for LED worklights throws up a lot of options.
