Just to dig this topic up again, I decided to follow the approach of some and use the electric razor I bought for light duties and tidying up but go for a wet shave when I have more time.

So the other week I purchased a Gillette fusion pro-glide razor and a tin of Nivea sensitive shaving gel (I already have the excellent Nivea sensitive post shaving balm)

My god it delivers a close shave! The electric razor couldn't hope to get that close! It does give some razor burn as I am not accustomed yet but it is getting there and I have only suffered very minor nicks with the blade, no proper cuts and bloodbath.

Still can't beat the lack of faffing with electric razor though  LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Try a pre-shave oil, I use Art of Shaving (Unscented).

Other than a cut throat razor, I think I've tried pretty much all options as I have sensitive skin and get razor rash from electric razors, even with the CoolSkin. Not tried more recent Brauns though.

I use Kiehls Lite Flite shaving cream with brush - lather up one way, then lather up for the other way.

Razor is a Gillette Fusion ??? - whatever Costco have in bulk at the time.

Admittedly I don't shave everyday, and sometimes go a week to give my face a rest. If I have to shave everyday then I do get some rash.

Post shave I use Sudocrem. Have tried a lot of other products and generally they seem to irritate more, or are just not effective. Sudocrem seems to give instance relief and minimises redness and soreness.

but i found gilettle or wilkinson sword triple super loads of blade with moistening carpets type razors produce more shaving rash than a cheaper gilettle double bladed disposable style

I also use a beard trimmer on lowest setting to leave some stubble. I don't really like a beard, nor a fully clean shave (too much maintenance). ...

I used to sniff a lighter flame to singe out my nasal hairs, only dangerous if you leave it too long and have a minature forest fire.

I once had a shave at a turkish barbors , he used the fire idea to clear my nose and ears, he also used a proper scarey cut throat razor. I tipped him well in advance  At work

I did try electric razors; both foil and Philishave.,
They don't shave well when the weather is warm and your skin is sweaty.
Tried Mach 3, not bad but expensive.
So it's back to double edge blades, Wilkinson Sword shaving soap and a badger brush.
Wet shaves are better after the skin has been well re-hydrated, ie after a shower  Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Made my mind up to buy a Edwin Jagger (made in Sheffield) double edge razor this week and try out a few different blades.
Be interesting to compare with those horrid plastic overpriced multi bladed cartridges. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

What a beauty.

To make a fair comparison with multiblades, I had my first shave with it using Wilkinson shaving soap, the 2 quid stuff in a blue round dish with lid. Not recommended for DE razors but I though I'd try it.
No pressure is need at all unlike multiblade, just the weight of the razor (it's quite heavy) is enough.
Found it a doddle to use, did two passes, one wtg and one diagonal atg.
Rather surprised to have no nicks, cuts or razor burn afterwards.

The shave is much better than multiblade although takes a bit longer. Thing is, it's a proper mans shave and now I'm looking forward to the next one. Turns a chore into something rather pleasant.

Next shave will be using King of Shaves oil over which will be applied Proraso Blue shaving cream. I expect an improvement.

So, what's any other advantage? Cost.
Those horrid multiblade things are expensive even though they cost coppers to manufacture. You could easily spend 200 quid a year on Fusion multiblade. And many users nick and cut themselves because they carry on using blunt blades.

Amazon have 100 DE blades for 8 quid. At an average of three shaves a blade, it's a no brainer.
Goodbye Gillette Mach, Fusion and all the other rip off multiblade.

Hi Greg at last someone else who has heard of Proraso. i'm currently on the Green for both pre Shave and Cream, what a smell

weapon of choice at the moment is a Merkur 38C Barberpole using the BIc blades in your photo, not long purchased 100 for £12'ish much better than those multi blade things. Can't get a way with Derbys too many cuts and nicks

Who knew shaving could be this enjoyable
