Freelander Japan

Seen these wing mirror things since I was a kid! What are they all about?! Been told it's a reverse mirror or it's an overtake mirror?!?! Anyone have the right answer? Even though it's a genuine part I will not be installing one when I get my freelander 2! Just surprised you still get them! Also why is it only Japan that has them ?

There is a visibility requirement in Japan for vehicles and being able to see a cylinder of prescribed size along the front and side of the vehicle. Later Japanese Freelander use a camera based system. It's supposed to replicate the ability to see a small child.

My recollection is that the legislation was introduced due to a small child being killed when the driver couldn't see properly. Most vehicles (e.g. Evoque, Range Rover + Sport) use surround camera systems to be compliant, whereas Freelander use a domestic (JLR Japan) solution as surround cameras aren't available as Halewood fit.

my sis in law iirc also had whips stuck to each front bumper, pointing straight upwards, positioned on the corner, i recall her saying that was so you knew where the corn of the bumper was and if the whip moved your nudging something

Apparently they needed those due to the very tight roads in her village etc, i think i assumed that was why the mirror was there

But boy was their Supra fast, but twitchy rear at the same time Laughing Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I'm sure some British cars in the 1960s had mirrors on the front wings, well ahead of the doors. 2013 RR Evoque Pure Tech

Hi Natwest sorry should be more clear yes it is. Why isn't it available as a Halewood fit? Why is the freelander 2 not built in Solihull?
