What is going on with insurance?

Ok guys get this:

October 2010 when I was 26, I had 2 years ncb and my renewal price with Churchill was £548, 2 named drivers, legal cover and £500 excess.

October 2011 now aged 27 I have 3 years ncb and the above specifics haven't changed but my renewal quote is £719 with Churchill. WTF!! Shocked

So I got a quote from Land Rover thinking they would be supreme and with all of the above they wanted £978! Shocked

Tesco wanted £770. Liverpool Victoria wanted £612.

The cheapest quote I have managed to get via confused.com is £512 from AXA. UK based call centres etc so I am heading to AXA if Churchill don't price match. Always been happy with Churchill but that is bonkers!

Anyone else had a big increase? LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Insurance is a legal scam.
I am with direct line who have been the cheapest for me for a few years. Yes, it increased but after some clever cancelling and re doing online it came down. However, it's still £520 fully comp with 9 years no claims for business use.
My postcode has a huge effect, live directly between two towns full of insurance crash scamsters.
I looked into getting company insurance, work for Koreans, they simply have a flat rate for each car, simple. Wouldn't be valid here though, one day it will happen.
One thing to bear in mind, the online companies can see you looking round, don't be afraid to ring up and barter, people are lazy and will do it online, they know this and will screw you for it.

Looking around for insurance for two cars and two drivers. Aviva is currently lowest with multicar discounts and you can get cashback on the deal. Go to www.topcashback.co.uk
Just to say that I have no connection with either of the companies mentioned here, I'm just passing on information I've come across.

One of the reasons behind the huge hike in prices is the phenomenon of "claims management companies" arranging like for like hire cars at exorbitant rentals - funnily enough the claims management companies are owned by the insurance companies.

In addition we have the ambulance chasing personal injury parasites hitting the Insurance companies for millions Evil or Very Mad MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

it all comes down to insurance companies recouping their costs due to high claims, crash for cash scams and the current nature of the UK to follow in America's footsteps and sue for everything

When it comes to insurance, unbelt your trousers, pull your boxers/pants down and grit your teeth as its going to be painfull Laughing Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Nearly 8k for a 2 week like for like replacement, yet I had to fight to get an extra 1k on the write off value of the car that I thought it was worth. If I'd known how much the rental was going to be I would have happily driven something at half the cost and got what I considered to be a fair write off value. Doesn't seem logical.

My insurance hiked this year as well. Was with NFU, they bumped to over £900, ended up with Land Rover Insurance at around £700, but do have quite a low excess, and, as NFU 'explained', the insured vehicle value went from less than 5k to more than 35k, which is a fair point.

just had a quote for the wifes car last night

vauxhall insurance £317, £250 comp excess with voluntary excess of £200 Shocked , i never asked for a voluntary excess, so they drop it off to £250 comp/£50vol, I DO NOT WANT TO PAY VOLUNTARY EXCESS Exclamation to save £20 a year on my insurance, apparently £50 voluntary excess is their compulsory excess required, so why not say £300 instead

she also tried to blab on about how they are the only insurance company that offers new car replacement in the first 12 months, funny i know plenty of companies that do Laughing Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

As I said before on another post - 30 something full (9yrs no claims) and paying 650 for my SE with a B9x post code Shocked Shocked

Although it does not surprise me with these rip off accident management companies and personal injury claims specialist!! I had a hire car through one of these companies once when my rear bumper on my 3 series coupe went for repair.. had the car for 4 days. Repair costs ~£400 hire costs ~£2000 Shocked Unsurprisingly the other insurance company disputed the claim... unfortunately the other insurance company was acting on behalf of my employee so things got a little 'interesting'

When I asked for a breakdown of rental charges it went something like..

car rental ~250 per day
automatic ~50 per day
Delivery ~150
Pickup ~150
Extra day rental as too late to pick up ~300
administration ~ something ridiculous

So thats why insurance is going up!!!

That and uninsured drivers... which IMHO there should be no excuses now as all the databases for Tax, insurance & MOT's should be tied together, hence the police should be able to get a list of all the addresses and reg plates of uninsured cars and start crushing them - No excuses Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

the police don't have the time or manpower to pursue criminals, never mind visit every uninsured/untaxed/un-MOTed vehicle in the country

I really do think the system needs a overhaul, problem with crushing them if they have a car on Hire Purchase they cant crush it, or seize it and sell at auction as they HP company is the one that owns it not the uninsured driver Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

One good thing (amongst many) to come out of number plate recognition is(certainly in Gloucestershire) the purge on uninsured drivers. The Police impound the car and it is not released until the miscreant produces a valid certificate. The Police then telephone the Insurers to confirm that their insured had declared being stopped with NO insurance. This usually leads to a massive premium hike and an increase in cars going to the crusher or local auction house. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Well I rang Churchill and the best they could do was £670. I have therefore cancelled and gone with AXA at £512 which has the specifics outlined in my original post but also includes cover for loss of keys. I am happy with the deal. Thumbs Up LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby
