I'm going to replace the speakers in my SE this weekend so I was hoping that someone has removed the door trims before me and that they can give me some tips.

Anyone with any tips? I've got the instructions from LR GTR however they could be more detailed.

Not done a thing with the speakers on my SE, I think they sound fine but then i didn't do Music at School so it may sound different to a trained ear. Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I wouldn't say I'm trained but I do find the speakers a bit flat for my liking and then the tweeters in the door pillars distort which is why i'm keen to change them.

I have to admit thinking about it, my brother how has a top of the range Volvo sound system in his V50 said it sounded flat when I first got the car.

Don't forget to take pictures of the process when taking the doors trims off and installing the new speakers  Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I am trying to work it out and scan the Forum on every message about this topic but stories keep coming different: no-go voor extra amps, someone says no-go for pimping speakers, so
AAs soon as I got a receipe, I go for it...

Dealer and LR have no idea...

On the weekend I went speaker shopping but I couldn't decide which speakers I wanted and the guy at JB Hi Fi suggested I put an amp in first and then see if I still needed to upgrade the speakers.

Turns out that was very good advice. I got home and installed a 4 channel Kicker Amp that I had spare. This made a huge difference - no more distortion, treble and mid-treble response is much better and the bass is also quite strong.

I tried to pull one of the door trims off but after I removed the 5 screws I couldn't get the trim to come off. I also didn't want to break it so I gave up.

The amp upgrade will probably do for me because combined with the 12" sub I have a decent sound quality.

I'm happy to answer questions about installing an amp its a realitvly painless exercise just a case of cutting the 8 speaker wires from the back of the headdeck and extending them down to the amp and then running new wires back from the amp to behind the headdeck again.

I need to find a better souce for the remote wire which turns the amp on as it currently stays on after the ignition is switched off and there is some slight buzzing however I know of a better place to get a 12v signal from. 2007 TD4 SE
