High pitch sound from behind the grille.

Hi everyone,

I own a TD4 FL2 and notice that when ever I switch the engine off and leave the car, I can hear from behind the front grille a very high pitch sound - just like a whistle.

I have had two dealers tell me 'Yes, they all whistle' (not the dealer, but the FL2!)

So my question is does your FL2 whistle too?
If so what is it?

Before you ask, no it isn't the wife or mother-in-law! Wink
Course for those older drivers... Very Happy

Apart from this the car is great! Very Happy Very Happy Bye for now,
Paul

Yes mine does it also. I think this topic has been raised before but I'm not sure whether we ever got to find out what the source of the noise is. There was a couple of topics in 'Technical' called 'strange noise' and also in 'My Freelander 2' called 'strange whistle coming from the front'. D3 GS Java Black TDV6 Manual

I thought it was the high pressure fuel pump beacuse it seems to be the TD4s that whistle.

Mine does - after every time I switch off the engine.

I expect it is due to 1 of two things :

a) a cooling fan, to continue the cooling of the turbo. Practically all the top makes of cars, with turbo's, do this.

b) the dpf - which is still burning off the soot particles. We are warned in the User Manual that we should not park the FL2 over combustible material - due to the continued heat emitted by the hot dpf.

Any other ideas ?

Mine does it even if I just turn on the ignition without starting the engine, and i don't have the DPF filter Confused ______________________
