Thanks for the prod.
We are looking for a 2-3 year old van, 4 berth with an end washroom and a fixed bed.
Quite like the Lunar SI with the transverse bed - means that I don't have to climb over Mrs H when nature calls in the night.
Also interested to know what members thoughts are regarding the ideal weight when towing. Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?

OK, I only have personal recommendations on 2 berths so I won't give advice on what I haven't tried, I'll leave that to others who have.

Mine comes in at 1380kG fully laden which is well below the recommended towing weight and it tows exceptionally well, the Freelander copes admirably at this level with no complaints from power needed, stability on the road and economy drop.
I know I have the SD4 with the auto box, so again I'll leave it to someone else's 'like for like' with a manual box to comment but I previously owned a TD4e manual for a short while and noticed it had a high reverse gear, so reversing up an incline on a poor rolling surface with a 'van' can be a little disconcerting for the clutch.

mines around 1600KG, you Dont really notice its on the back and the auto box drops into top at 60-70+ on the auto-routes and stays there up and down hill no problem

I must say the one forgiving thing about the Freelander is the towing ability and the auto comes into its own as its brilliant. I have towed over the Alps without any signs of overheating and no problem with the box. If the box gets too hot they will change their gear selection to aid with cooling but never experienced it even over the Alps !

Having said that TA's tend to tow very well and the most sensitive van I ever had was a rear end bathroom one, make it swing around at speed !

One like mine fits the bill, Bailey California, End Washroom, fixed bed and sleeps four, arguably the last of the good Bailey Vans before they went Alutech and cold. Comes on at just under 1500kgs.

EYorkshire right with the clutch,it's to high a gear when reversing on inclines. Had mine smelling before now and that's towing a 1375kg unloaded and 1690kg fully loaded so I use the motor mover in most cases to save the clutch but apart from that it tows great.

Yeah I second that ! My pals that have bought the new alu tech design have mostly regretted their purchase .

Mine was a special build that bailey kindly built as they had stopped production of that particular van but having purchased 7 previous baileys they actually made a one of build !

We have a Swift 520, not a fixed bed type, but came fitted with a motor mover, which takes the weight to near 1600kg. The Freelander just hauls it away without complaint.

Whilst this site might provide some answers I would go to a dedicated caravan forum for advice. I would suggest caravantalk.

Wouldn't bother, if you go there and mention that you have a LR product the Kia Protection Society and the Honda Appreciation come in and just ends up as a thread to slag of Land Rover.

Funny really.........someone on this topic is slagging FLs off on Caravan chat!! and praising Bailey caravans

I'll gladly pay CG £2.00 for a ready for oven chicken. Huge profit then for him. Will he do the points as well? Rolling Eyes
