Roof downlight

I once had a BMW 525tds sports which had the novel idea of 2 lights mounted in the roof lining above the rear-view mirror that would light-up the centre console at night making it possible to find the ash tray and any bits and bobs in the cubby holes. (and the wife's knee)

As the cigarette ash tray are so crap in the fl2, i would like to fit a light to the roof of my fl2 but haven't really found anything to suit.
The BMW ones had really soft lighting.

Anyone got any ideas ??

can you purchase the BMW ones from parts department?

Or get a small LED Spot light and attach to the rear of the rear view mirror.

I know the lads over on RRSport had this discussion, i'm not sure if the RRS has this built into their mirror or they too was saying they wish they could.

If they do cost up/see if the RRS mirror could be bought, (dealer or breakersyard) and install Question Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

The Audi S8 had the same with red leds that were subtle enough not to annoy, but bright enough to light up the centre console, and think the same lights should be standard in every premium vehicle.

Hi pwait...
I was thinking something similar myself, but not sure where to mount without it looking like an after market addition, let us know how you get on…

It’s one of my only few disappointments with the car.. the Mrs has a mini cooper convertible, and the ambient lighting in that really adds to the look of the interior at night..
With regard to if the RRS has the ambient light (npinks suggestion…) perhaps Tim in Scotland can shed some light…. Although I think he may be at sea at present?

Has anybody come up with anything on the LED downlighters?

I have had a RRS for the last few days and that LED downlighter is built into the roof console for the map reading lights and sunroof switchs, I have noticed as well that it dims along with the dash (speedo) lights when you adjust them with the dimming switch.

this one has a white light and is set back into the console slightly. Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I have seen various options in Halfrauds that may be suitable.

Small LED spots and neon strips etc. The challenge here is of course finding a suitable mounting point and then running the cable.

If any one does it please take photos of the dash etc. in pieces! '57 GS TD4 in Stornoway. Privacy, Leather, Tred Cills. From ebay etc.. 18" 12 spoke HSE alloys, rear spoiler, clear side repeaters with clear leds, led interior light to replace bulbs, sports exhaust trim, TomTom 720.

Just installed the interior LED and have noticed that they have a LED glowing all the time when the have gone out after starting the car (day and night)

If this LED could somehow be changed to a brighter or another colour on a set of wires that could be installed to give the down lighter effect illuminating the center console

Obviously this would have to be done so they switch off during the day (a dusk/dawn sensor connected somehow) and would have to be done so the LED can not be seen glowing to distract the driver (maybe inserted in a wide angled gromit
