Door lock motor

Just completed a repair to a rear door lock which only worked now and then. Stripped motor out of housing, took motor apart to clean commutator & brushes which was covered in black carbon. Now works a treat.
Thanks to your brilliant guide and photos. This repair saved me loads ££££ Very Happy

Thanks’ four your appreciation,
Any way, if you see that the carbon brushes are gone, you can buy the cheapest “door locking set”, the universal one- Chinese made, and you can dismantle complete unit, remove the motor and swap the brushes. Pay attention when you remove that brushes because are fragile,I use to cut the metal support in order to remove safely that brushes, to install is very easy, just push them in inside of the designed place on metallic lamella.
Next time i will make some pictures.

Just had a go at this on mine and failed somewhat. What is the third picture showing? Door pull cover prises off from bottom with 2 screws underneath ( for those who haven't worked it out like me). My speaker was very tight to remove as there are 2 dowels at the connector end which were very tight in their holes and I was afraid to pull too hard. The window switches and the handle pull cable need to be unclipped when the door card is loose at the top - tight but doable. I couldn't get my window winder mechanism to drop very much - couldn't find out why. Couldn't remove door handle - drivers doors non key operated lock - felt very flimsy and didn't want to force to too much.

As much as I could drop window winder.

No plug in door as with key lock side.

The good news is that after reassembly the central locking is working again - but how long for? Silver 2009 HSE

you have not been able to lower window mechanism because you didn't move in upper side and secure with tape the window glass, this is the reason why,see in my post,in third picture you can see the plastic clips holding and securing window glass on window mechanism.
hope this will help you.if any questions don't hesitate to ask.

Just a small update as I managed to do mine.... it was a daunting task but good weather allowed me to take the day to do it.

Tips from my experience.

Have a plastic bag to wrap around your window frame for when you attach the tape to hold the window up - a second set of hands may help but its not impossible to stick by your self the window when ready. I used low tack Frog tape from Homebase simply as I had it to hand

Get all 4 screw from the door card.... I managed to break the plastic button set from it how ever a hot soldering iron and some glue allowed me to get that sorted.

Unplug the tweeter, speaker and the button set when removing the door card - it is possible although a second set of hands may help.

Removing the speaker is a great idea but put it some where that means it will not get damaged - like wise the door card and the inside handle cover.

If yours is a little older the plastic on the outside door catch cover will break.... you will need a new one - Dan from Duckworths got mine in the post pretty quick for less than a tenner. The plastic was weakened by age.

Taking the handle off needed a big of wiggling left and right but pulling back at the same time - this stopped me for a little while as I did not want to force it.

Take car when undoing bolts so you do not loose them

Very small screw drivers are ideal for removing the white clips to the cables attached to the motors... TAKE YOUR TIME they can break easy.

Other than that every thing you see above ids about right but do expect to come out which scratched hands... there are plenty of sharp edges in the doors.

If I think of any thing else I'll post it here.

It just remains me to say thank you to the OP and the many other threads on this forum that I used to get this job done.

First post...

Fantastic write up on the door lock. I did this today but got stuck at removing the two motors for cleaning. I pulled at the motors a little bit but was worried they might break and I wouldn't be able to lock the wife's car Embarassed

Are the terminals soldered into place as I couldn't quite see? Or shall I just pull a little harder to remove them?

Cheers
